Week 34 - US Open men's qualifying - New York (hard)

Not GB related but 7th qualie seed Thiago Monteiro has gone out to Frenchman Mpetshi Perricard in what looks like an epic scoreline.

6-7(11) 7-6(5) 7-6(8)

Some match by the looks of that.

Up *4-1 in the third. Standing so far back to return he's off camera.

but it is working. In the first set he could not cope with the serve.

Perhaps he's got someone else back there doing the returning for him wink

Really enjoyed that - Liam looking very very fit, and playing a good variety of shot, very focused.....

Is Liam defending anything from last year for this?

Defending 8 points for reaching QR2 last year so these now defended and he will be on at least his current 557 ranking points in the post US Open 11/09 rankings.

Any further US Open qualifying and MD wins will be profit. He also has Challenger entries for the coming 2 weeks.

Purely from the US Open, he would need to qualify ( would then be on 584 points if he lost in MD R1 ) to have any chance of being top 100. Though he would probably need a MD R1 win as well ( would then be on 619 points ).

He has no further points due off until 02/10 so does also have a window for a few further weeks.

Dan, Cam and Andy all in Alcaraz quarter. Draper in same half has Albot followed by Hurkacz.

Murray v Moutet

Evans v Galan

Norrie v Shevchenko

not bad draws really, ok ALcaraz awaits more than one of them, but all the opening matches are winnable I reckon and then we see what unfurls!
