Week 40 - ATP Challenger 100 - Open de Vendée - Mouilleron-le-Captif, France (indoor hard)

Unfortunately Arthur has 25 points coming off before next rankings update. Still a great win though.

Might we be seeing Arthur in AO qualifying (along with Billy)

Arthur beat Zeppieri only last week, here's hoping he can do it again!

QF:  (7) Jack Draper WR 92 vs (WC) Lucas Poullain (FRA) WR 282 (= CH)

Poullain beat a fellow WC, Martineau, who beat Stricker, the second seed, in straight sets in the first round...

Well, Lucas won the toss and elected to receive ..... and Jack won his service game to love

Which - presumably - was not quite what Lucas had in mind....

Maybe Lucas' plan was more cunning than I gave him credit for.....

Poullain took the first set in a TB

Jack lost the second set 6-2 bleh

Pity, but obviously up against a man in form and he's played a fair few matches recently. At least he's back in the 100 club now - onwards and upwards!

Bad day at the office for Jack:

QF:  (WC) Lucas Poullain (FRA) WR 282 defeated (7) Jack Draper WR 92 by 7-6(4) 6-2   bleh

As I mentioned yesterday, "Poullain beat a fellow WC, Martineau, who beat Stricker, the second seed,  in straight sets in the first round..."  cry

Doesn't really matter but I don't buy off on the argument that Poullain beat X who beat Y who beat Z

Lucas is ranked 282, he's 27 years old, he's never been any higher ranked than 282, he's not a mystery player hiding in the wings.....

He played well today but Jack was more dominant in the first set and just couldn't quite push home his advantage (his fault) and then gave up a bit after he'd lost the first set

I dont get too bothered about the man who beat the man type stuff , styles of play and form on the day can vary so much. At this level anyone from 1-200 can beat pretty much anyone else on their day and surface. Jacks trajectory is ok, as is Liams , and Jack is doing right to largely focus on indoor challengers over the autumn and get some more notches back on his ranking.

Arthur cheekily saves 3 SPs at 5*-6 0-40 then clinches his first of 3 to win the first 7-3 in the breaker smile

More of the same please Arthur....
