Week 43 - ATP 500 - Swiss Indoors - Basel, Switzerland (indoor hard)

Not sure how I feel about Becker being involved in tennis again. On one hand I hate to see people tossed aside and condemned for mistakes in life, cancel culture is awful. However the other side Im kind of thinking hes got away with it in the main.

He got a lot of support on X (fka Twitter) when it was announced, seems a lot of folks like Boris still. I personally dont mind - it is Rune's call and if he is happy so be it, and I have never minded Boris or, as you say, giving folks a chance. He will be limited on being coach though to Europe - Australia, UK and USA dont allow convicted criminals into their country without formal Visa approval and he would be unlikely to get it to any of those countries, at least whilst he is still on license (although released after 8 months, he will be on license for the full 30 months) and probably not at all - I dont think he can return to the UK, that is for sure, as he received a sentence greater than 12 months until such time as a future Home Secretary allows him to, and Suella sure as heck wont!

And with his profile, I would be surprised to see the Aussies or Americans give him a waiver on his Visa. So he will have to coach Rune around EU Europe alone it would appear.

If Andy wins today and Rune gets through, Andy and Rune (and Becker) will collide in the last 8. A lot of ifs before that though

If Andy and Rune do meet, we will get to see Lendl and Becker collide in the coaches box. That will be fun ! Although I suspect Lendl isnt in Basle. In fact, does anyone know, is Lendl still with Andy at all or was that just an arrangement for the summer?

Andy wins the first set 7-6(5). Takes an hour and 17 minutes - quelle surprise.

Jamie and Mike just about hanging in there a set down.

Jamie and Michael have saved 0-40 situations at both *2-3 and *5-6 and find themselves in a second set TB. Have missed a few sudden death points themselves on return.
