Week 43 - ITF M25 - Glasgow, Great Britain (indoor hard)

Just for clarification its not a dig at the board just British tennis overall, the LTA etc. Goes back got the treatment of the likes of Jamie Murray. Ive said before Anna has been missed off entry lists and her own thread is on the third page of the individual threads only Coup Droit has really commented. And Maia never really got much attention when she was breaking through I seemed to recall.

 yeah, but...

below her on page 3 are Cam, Joe Salisbury, Harriet , and on page 4 Billy. All of those are players who are popular on the board and biggish names on the board or more widely in British tennis. But their threads get little traffic because, to be honest, most people dont go much to the indiv threads and comment in tournies or entry lists or in the general discussion

As for CD - well, CD is tends to comment everywhere and anywhere where no one else treads so I think that doesnt mean a jot (all respect to CD, the leading poster on the board!!) biggrin

Also noting re Jonny O'Mara - well, I am a Yorkshireman and noted several times that Jonny was born in Keighley, which is Bradford area and only 15 miles from me (we used to take our lovely late dog, Luna, to a groomer in Keighley who specialised in her breed of Norfolk Terrier - it was called Look North and you cant get more Yorkshire than that). So I claim Jonny as a Yorkshireman I am afraid and would argue that with anyone!!biggrin https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonny_O'Mara

Haha. Gameover and I used to argue over the heritage of Jonny Marray, a true Sheffield Yorkshire lad who others claimed as red rose (pah) so I can fight as much as needed.

I guess Arbroath needs its claim to Jonny more than Keighley though. Its over 140 years since you beat Bon Accord 36-0, so Ill let you have partial dibs on Jonny!

On a serious note, my daughter is at uni up in Edinburgh. When we drive home, I usually take the A68 through Jedburgh to the border - its the best drive in the UK all the way to Hexham, a real drivers route , love it. When you reach Newtown St Boswells, theres a tennis club that, no matter the time of year , has players using all the courts , 4 of them I think, hard court or Astro, and always always full; Im usually driving along there early Sunday evening, maybe 5 or 6 pm and last weekend did that, and it was full, mid October, pleasant evening but chilly, at 6.30pm.

I'm a great fan of Anna - hadn't realised she was Scottish! - and Maia.

Don't think I've ever commented on individual threads of anyone.

You only have to go to the Wimbledon qualifying thread to see how positively Anna is viewed by many people on the Board and how delighted everyone was that she got to the final round. As been said, many people comment more on tournament threads than individual threads. Like you I didnt know she was Scottish until recently, since her return to competition.

Karol Kucera, now theres a blast from the past. Is he coaching one of the competitors or something.

I have searched high and low to find more info around why you mentioned Karol Kucera (who was a really good player!) but I cant find it! He ain't entered here! What's the connection with Glasgow?

Ahhhh Keighley.....stayed there on a farm so I could enjoy the spolis of Yorkshire.  From Pork Pies in Skipton to Rascals in Harrogate the highlight was always returning home to Keighley biggrin

 haha. I get that! Well...

Rascals in Harrogate - you mean the famous Fat Rascal of Betty's fame! A well visited place - my daughter is a waitress there when she is back from Uni, so she may have served you a Fat Rascal when you visited!
