In Paris they are just warming up for the penultimate match at 1015 pm. Assuming this one is not a walkover , the final match, Sinner v McDonald will go on court close to midnight or later. Looking at a 2 am finish maybe? Zverev took 3 hours 29 to beat Humbert
There was a walkover in the first round so Cash/Bhambri or anyone really would have gotten in.
To be honest, this is a fairly big loophole waiting to be exploited. This is the 3rd time this year there has been a walkover in the first round. It only takes one win in a futures to get a point, and you dont necessarily have to be a completely amazing player to achieve that in doubles, just persuade the top seed to play with you - or pay him - and get a generous draw. Then show up at a Masters.

I do not know what goes through organisers minds when they schedule six singles matches in a row on a court, but hey us fans have been banging this drum for years.
Djoko also gave a walkover today. Problem with singles players in doubles draws.
It was Kecmanovic not Djokovic who was injured.
I always feel that its hard on the doubles players for the singles players to take the spots. The doubles players then cant get in and thats how they earn their points and money.
Play finished at 2.37 am eventually. Sinner due back on court circa 5 pm today.
Sinner withdraws! Do wonder if this is trying to make a statement about the ridiculous scheduling. Surely once it gets past a certain hour any matches remaining should just be moved to another court.

Not surprising, I had heard noises to this effect. ANd he is into the Tour Finals, so motivation not so great.
I can sort of tolerate the ridiculousness at a grand slam but it's utter a madness at levels below that.
Indeed, 6 singles matches starting at 11:00 is asking for trouble. You need to allow 2 hours for each one at least. that doesnt include time between matches. thats probably 20 minute. thats another 1 hour 40. Already just based on that you are gone midnight. Should have played no more than 3 singles in the day session and had a doubles to open it up at say 10:00 or 10:30.
That's the problem.
The standard, accepted time for a match is 1hr30 mins.
Well, it is in France, for a French tournament referee.
And that includes turnaround time.
Which I always thought was really skinny.
But it's what it is.
Which leads to the problems you're talking about

At pro level, length of matches has been growing, 90 mins is skinny. I used to use 4 mins per game as a benchmark in the day; for a 2 1/2 set average match, youd be looking at 24-25 games, 100 mins. Without turnaround time. But matches these days are averaging beyond 4 mins per game and getting towards 4.5 mins per game, so youd be looking at 25 games taking close to 2 hours, definitely over 2 hours with turnaround built in.
And if the players incl someone like Andy, or closely matched baseliners like Djoko or Medvedev, Sinner, etc you will get 5 mins per game!
