As a couple of asides, surely this has to be his biggest pay day too ? 6k euros for 1st round MD. As Billy has never won a challenger, I doubt he has earned more in a week, with the possible exception of an QWC at Wimbledon ?

And a 1st round win here would put him on 306 points. Player WR200 is on 307 points. Touching distance, albeit with a few others in a position to improve their tally too.

Yeah I think Wimbledon Qualies and Queens this year where he reached Q2 are his only bigger pay days.

I would think you are right about the pay day - although reaching the FQR at Wimbledon this year was worth £36k

He also earned about EUR 8.75k at Queens this year (making the FQR)

(which is nothing comared with Wimbly but all good - lovely to see some bigger pay cheques for him)

ADD: just seen Madadman mentioned it already - sorry

Billy mixing it with the big boys now. Can't think of anyone who deserves it more. Talk about hard work and graft, this guy has it in spades.

Totally this. It's been a great story to follow back from the old days in the van to ATP events. What an inspiration.

L32: (Q) Billy Harris WR 221 vs (Q) Marc-Andrea Huesler (SUI) WR 200 (CH 47 Feb 23)

Ironically Huesler is defending champion but not given a wild card. He's not been on such good form recently including a loss to Arthur Fery.

Arthur softened Goffin up for Jack, maybe same will go for Huesler!

Was just thinking about this. Go back just over two years ago and hed never won an ITF singles event. Aged 26, ranked 636 he managed to win an M15 in Bulgaria In October 2021. Just goes to show you might have to slog it out for a number of years but if you keep going the rewards are there if you are good enough.

He had an injury in 2018/19 which set him back but I feel like he sort of benefited from the pandemic. The UKPro League in 2020 meant he got to play a lot of tennis and find his game also probably financed his travels later that year and he then made his first m15 final in Turkey during the Christmas week.

First set Billy 6-4. Had 13 break points in the set only managed to take one of them. Made Huesler work for his service games. Although Huesler was guilty with a few double faults. Dont think Billy faced a break point.

One set all. Huesler level has gone up, Billy might have dipped a bit. All to play for.

Looking at the stats Billy has taken 1 out of 14 break points, Marc has taken his sole break point. Come on Billy!

Though as Madadman said, 13 of Billy's BPs were in the first set and at least he did win that set.

*5-5 in the third set.
