Seems a decent effort from Billy. Half followed the score. Got back from a break down in the first and had a mini break in the tb. Good week all the same.
Yep, very well done. I think Billy is in Sweden for challenger qualifying this weekend, back down to earth! And then he is hitting partner for the Davis Cup squad after that.
Jack at 7-5 4-1 against the top seeded Musetti. Tennis abstract predicted a Jack win and for the tournie, but I must admit I wasnt sure. But so far, Jack looking good.
Whisper it but Jack could win this title. After the way he played today, there's no one in the draw he can't beat. The only snafu could be Mannarino's resistance and defense.
I thought the variety in Jack's game today was particularly pleasing.
He's been touted in Italy as their great hope, more talented than Sinner, more 'handsome' than Sinner, a huge amount of press and expectation for him to be, in effect, the new Roger.
And he's doing very well, but that's based on having played a lot of events and winning a round or two in all of them, it sort of keeps the points ticking over.
And, of course, is still very young (born 2002, although only about 3 months younger than Jack).
But he's been up to ATP 15, and is now having some wobbles.
He's also a bit of a prima donna, when you read the press and see the interviews
He's not finding it easy....

Are the Italians struggling like the French struggled - they have invested in all those ITF and CHallenger events, the pipeline of talent is now there with the top 100 full of Italians like the French once was, they have had Berrettini, Sinner, now Musetti, maybe Sonego as well, (leaving Fognini out as he is the previous generation) knocking on the door of winning something big but...they arent quite getting over the line and now the pressure is building to translate the volume into a superstar?
The French never quite achieved it, and had a similar process and build up and it never quite translated into that measure of success?
And, of course, the difference is that super stardom is inherent in the player and not the system - Djoko, Federer, Murray before that the Borg's and the Kuerten's etc were all talents themselves, wherever they came from. The system can build the volumes but the player is the one who dips over the line!
