Haven't Neal and Joe played before ? Maybe it was just a DC tie. From my very vague memories, there wasn't a lot of chemistry between the two of them.
They won VIenna ATP 500 a few years back together but I think you are right; probably part of the reason Joe wasnt picked for the last DC tie.
I dont think Rajeev, after winning the USO, will retire just yet, suspect he will go one more year, and Joe will stick with him.
First, they both have this weeks World Champs to win though!
Ironically Salisbury and Skupski have won 2 of the 3 events they played together but are 2-2 in Davis Cup. They lost a deciding doubles against Germany they should have won at the 2021 Finals and were kind of written off after that.

In the mens singles, Tsitsipas retired after 3 games against Rune, presumably his back. Not sure what this means for the player to replace Tsitsipas, presumably Hurkacz?
If Djoko beats Sinner tonight, it is largely academic as Djokovic will be through and Rune and SInner go head to head for the other semis spot. So the replacement/alt slot is simply likely to be for the pleasure of playing Djoko plus some cash and points.
Yes the feeling is that Tsitsipas shouldnt have started this match as withdrew from his practice. He deprived the crowd of a good match (played only 3 games) and deprived Hurkacz of any chance of getting anywhere in the competition. Crowd really booed him. However he did earn quite a few dollars!
The crowd were then treated to just under 30 mins of Harkacz playing an injured Fritz which was equally uninspiring-more boos. A poor afternoon for the ATP and this tournament.

oh gosh, I didnt realise all that had happened. Yes, if you had paid decent money and got a straight sets doubles earlier and 3 games of this , youd be very disappointed/annoyed. Poor show

He only got an extra $80k though, didn't he?
i.e. the pro-rate increase in the participation fee for having taken part in two matches
*Participation fee: Prorated on a per-match basis. 1 match = $162,750, 2 matches = $245,125 and 3 matches = $325,500.
I know $80k is not to be sniffed at (!), but it's not a huge amount of money for Tsitsipas - I think that's pretty disgraceful
Harri Heliovaara has said in his blog that Neal will play with Santiago Gonzalez next year. Harri is going to play with John Peers. He said Joe & Rajeev decided after Wimbledon to split next year but with subsequent success they're staying together.

That's interesting. However I see that González is 40 years old. I'd have preferred Neal to find a younger partner who he could play with for the next few years (assuming the partnership went well)
