Harri Heliovaara has said in his blog that Neal will play with Santiago Gonzalez next year. Harri is going to play with John Peers. He said Joe & Rajeev decided after Wimbledon to split next year but with subsequent success they're staying together.
That's interesting. However I see that González is 40 years old. I'd have preferred Neal to find a younger partner who he could play with for the next few years (assuming the partnership went well)
I have posted this in other threads, but the battle for British top spot is still open.
Neal sits on 6170 points
Joe is on 4990 points
If Joe and Rajeev beat Neal and Wes today AND goes on to take the title unbeaten, and Neal and Wes lose their final group match on Friday, then Joe will get to 6290 points and end the season as British number one.
It needs those things to fall in place, but is quite possible.
First up, the match today at 5.30 is important for the group standings and the event itself, but it also has the British number one on the line.
If Neal and Wes win today, or win on Friday, or Joe and Rajeev don't take the title unbeaten, then Neal takes top spot.
Bopanna and Ebden beat Hijikata and Kubler in 2 sets.
It means that if Joe and Rajeev beat Neal and Wes, they will qualify for the semis (as at least two pairs in the group won't be able to achieve 2 wins in this case) and top the group (as they will have the H2H record over Bopanna and Ebden and Neal and Wesley).
Big opportunity for Joe and Rajeev. Hard to select a winner or personal preference, but on balance I think I would like to see Joe and Rajeev win this one today, and then Neal and Wes win their final match tomorrow.

Think thats a smart choice by Neal at this late stage. Gonzalez is in the form of his career even at the age of 40, ranked No. 8 with 2 Masters titles this year. Hes not entering into a five year contract, and if in six months it isnt working, hell have had time to look around.
Gonzalez is two years younger than Rojer, who Glasspool is now partnering. Have a feeling that well end up with another all Brit pairing at some stage next year.

I'm sure you're right as I really don't know anything about Gonzalez, except that once you get to 40 retirement can't be that far away? I would have quite liked to see Neal partner Harry as I rate him highly as a player and a person, but if the partnership with Gonzalez is successful I'll be the first to admit I was wrong.
Im glad Jamie and Michael Venus are staying together. Theyve done well this season and can see them doing well next with lots of scratch pairings around .

Suspect that Harri wasn't an option, so important to get a guaranteed partner in the bag. That way you can start planning a schedule together. Otherwise you're straggling around event to event trying to find a partner.
The Bryan brothers used to say the reason they had so much success at the start of the year was that so many new pairs were bedding in.
Harri was an option! See post above - in his blog he says he tried to get Neal, Neal asked to think about it; Harri also met Louis cayer over dinner to discuss it. But after two weeks Neal decided to go with Gonzalez
Harri had also listed some other players he considered as possible options - one of which was Henry Patten, who he said he rates very highly but felt his current ranking was too low to get into events at the level Harri wants to play.
