Yes, but doesn't that say it all - Sinner beats Djoko two times out of three - but the one that REALLY mattered, Djoko won......

Well..: you could argue that winning a Davis Cup semi is the one that matters!? id say its pretty close!

 Nope - not a chance

Haha. I guess it depends on personal priorities.

And so it is sinner and Sonego win the doubles 3 and 4.

Amazing day for Sinner; the record of 6 out of 6 number ones winning and going onto win the match overall continues.

Italy versus Australia tomorrow.

Is Sinner becoming Djokovic's successor? You kind of think that he still has improvements to make to his game. Congratulations to Italy - well played.

Do we think GB will get a wildcard or is it going to be the Qualifiers? I actually want us to not get a wildcard as I like watching Davis Cup and Spring 2024 is too long a wait for me.

Also I see the Daily Mail are suggesting Leon is mulling over a new deal which I'd be happy with :).

Hi Shaun and welcome to the board. Im not sure how many wildcards they give out but as it would be for a finals in Spain , I cant see we have the recent historic form and the top players to be attractive for a wildcard, so cant see us getting one. Russell Fuller on the BBC earlier thought it very unlikely.

Jack D was saying very good things about Leon as Captain so it seems the players want him to stay!

Just got back in UK after a bit of a nightmare trip. Left bag in taxi from airport which had my passport in it. So been running around trying to get an emergency one form British Consulate. Managed a full day at tennis on Thursday which was fun despite the result. Lovely venue beautiful weather so overall still enjoyed it.

Feel for you Seagull, this year Ive left a bag at security, a passport at security (different airport), phone & bank cards on a hop-on hop-bus, suitcase on train platform at a US airport - and got them all back amazingly..

Fab day today - Sinners the real deal. Novak was not a happy man and I think hed liked to have got the win for his country.

Looking forward to one more day - presume Sinner will play again. Musetti looking injured today.

Will hopefully return home will all my belongings..

The crowds were booing Novak again in the doubleshes getting worst at dealing with these situations as he gets older which is quite bizarre

I bloody love Sinner. So glad he is finally making it over the line. Was starting to worry that he didn't have the mentality to win big matches.

It feels like he could come through for sure as one of the big two or three to lead mens tennis for the next few years

He's 100% going to be at the top with Alcaraz and potentially Jack for a long time.  A friend watched him pre covid in Rome and was absolutely raving about him back then so I've followed him since.

I think I'm going to be in the same situation as I was with Andy Murray, preferring an overseas player to a homegrown one but atleast now I won't actively dislike one of the 3 so will be slightly less invested.

I agree re Sinner and Alcaraz- Id love to see Jack be up there, my feeling re Jack is more like solid top 20 and some deep slam runs in his career, not sure top 3 like an Andy though. I hope that is wrong as I love his game. Fils I see being a possible. The other current big names, medvedev, Tsitsipas, Rublev, Zverev etc I see as occasional challengers but not long term dominators!

Im finding it hard to see where Australia can win this today. Adm always fights and has had a remarkable season but dont see him beating Sinner. Popyrin could beat Musetti but will be underdog. But if they can get that one, doubles could be interesting.

The Italian no.1 swings the tie, again. So is having a top no.1 more beneficial in this 3rubber format when they play dubs as well, when compared to the old 5rubber format used in home and away ties.. Sure is I'd say because 2/3 > 3/5.

That said as a one day solution, 3x 3set rubbers is OK.

Yep. Indy and I commented on this somewhere up the thread. Lets take it further- having one starplayer who can play singles and doubles is important. In the past, over the 5 sets format, the singles player would play doubles less often; in this, the number one singles player is more likely to rock out for doubles as well.

Yes I just remembered how exhausted Murray was when he played all three days in the year we won DC.
