Hard to see Finland getting through the Canadians today, hope they make a fist of it. Be interesting to see the crowds in the absence of a home town team.

Wish they had played 2 matches today though, 2 tomorrow and then onto the semis. Could easily have reduced this to a 4 day event instead of 6 and ratcheted up the intensity in the process

Should have been day one to day three (through the semis) - 11am start to say 5 pm finish; gap and then 6 pm to midnight finish for the second match; and then final on the Sunday. Instead it is all drawn out over a number of days.

Canada win the opening rubber as expected, Milos Raonic came in as #2 and beat the unknown (to me) Fin Patrick Kaukavalta (WR 782!) in straight sets

Diallo plays Virtanen next.

FAA wasnt selected for Canada, suspect they felt they didnt need him? Finland didnt select Ruusuvuori either, they definitely needed him, so presume he was injured?

Unless Ruusuvuori is down for dubs.. He is their no.1 so would have had played second rubber if selected for singles.

Feel more confident with Draper than Murray unfortunately, and that may be a relatively telling indtement of where Murray's career is at this stage.

Switch to doubles Murray and you might get one more taste of grand slam glory.

Perhaps, let's see - for now, Virtanen is leading Diallo 5-3 in the opening set. Id expect Diallo to win in maybe 3 sets but you can never tell in DC.

Ruusuvuori is not name for doubles when I check the DC website..  Must not be available. These dudes are dubs pairing.

Heliovaara, Harri

Niklas-Salminen

I don't think Murray is sharp enough on that hip anymore for the serve and volley of dubs. Fingers crossed Salisbury and Skupski can forge a partnership this time. Perhaps less pressure this time in that alternatives just not available.

Auger-Aliassime ("lower body") and Ruusuvuori (shoulder) were both injured.

Think the schedule is sensible if trying to get in neutral crowds later on in the day. It is also better for broadcasters with the exception of Australia.

Looks like Finland made a last minute change for the dubs since Virtanen won the second rubber in two sets, stuck him back out.
Finland dubs:
Heliovaara, Harri
Virtanen, Otto

And they could well upset the holders as well. Already 4-1 up in the doubles.
