Hannah is good enough for senior tennis. So my question is: what is the point in her playing junior tennis?

Ive posted something similar in the past Oscarivan and have had some well informed responses. A lot rests on the physical development and ensuring that there is sufficient strength and stamina to withstand the gruelling tour. Fear of injury is cited as one of the main challenges facing juniors transitioning in the game. Another is whether the shot making is fully developed. Once playing seniors then time for practice can reduce. I, like you, would love to see our young juniors have a go in some senior tournaments, and I am sure they will get plenty of opportunities over the summer, but we need to protect them. Otherwise we could end up with another series of injuries like those that have hindered Emma Radacanu - the talent is there but the physical development is playing catch up. That is why I think the WTA are so strict on exposing juniors to the senior tour.

The same reason that Iva will still play some junior tennis - she's entered for the J500 in Milan despite beating a top-100 WTA player

And so will nearly all the girls at rich federations.

Whereas the Czech girls, for instance, are more likely to move 100% over to adult tennis earlier simply for financial reasons

There's a lot of gpod reasons for still playing some juniors. Especially for the younger players.

Var notes quite a few. And there are more, technical, developmental, politcal (for your federation) etc etc.

But one really important one is that it's fun

It's not easy for a 15 year-old to be hanging round with a coach and a group of 24 year-old players, with whom she has little in common, playing pretty low key W50 events or whatever (which are quite grim, a lot of them)

Playing the J500, for instance, will be a blast - there will be a lof of friends, a lot of things laid on.

That matters.

And the standard will be high. Hannah is only 4th on the list for Milan - there are three girls 'better' than her - who also are doing well in adults.
