Just in passing:

Thrilled to see Arthur Cazaux beat Holger Rune today

Mainly because I'm not a fan of Rune's, now he's hired Boris Becker as coach who (a) is a pretty dire coach, IMHO, and (b) is an even more dire human being

But also because Cazaux is a character, a young Frenchman, from Montpellier (cool, student sort of place right in the south), wants to be an actor ()

He was a top junior (got to #4) but hasn't quite transitioned as the FFT would like - he's now 21 and has never been in the top-100 (although he will be after the AO )

He's also a good example of the benefit of playing other sports - he's got a great serve, and credits that to playing serious level handball for most of his teenage years - says it gave him the shoulder strength and movement, the serve has always come completely naturally as a tennis player, he didn't really need to work on it

Anyway, brilliant result as far as I was concenred - ticked all the boxes

I see the AO's cunning plan to prevent matches from finishing at ridiculous times has hit a setback, with Medvedev and Ruusuvuori into a 5th set at 3.30am hmm

Honestly they can't do much more. No more than two matches starting at 12 (compared with three in the past), and two matches from 7 (compared with 7.30). Today there were four long matches and a rain delay.

Historically the majority of night sessions start on time and don't involve eight sets. If they did, this would have blown up long ago. They need to look at the average finishing time not focus on outliers. That said, hideous for someone like Medvedev who won't be in bed yet, and might have to play in the heat of the day on Saturday.
