I am not sure necessarily that it will be a single venue - Malaga was a compromise this year when Seville couldn't host - but agree that the locations are key.

There are difficulties with a joint event - not least the different sponsors - and in Malaga this year the events will be held on two different courts. And I am sure that Billie Jean King Cup Limited (which now runs the event) is not going to want to play second fiddle to Davis Cup. But let's see how it pans out.

Good points - the ITF boss, Haggerty (sic) though talks about the aim being to align on a World Cup of tennis, which implies a single venue to me

I think for the ITF it's more important that the events are treated the same - format, prize money, profile - than their being merged.

The fact is that Davis Cup is held over three weeks, Billie Jean King Cup two, and they have different sponsors. In fact Davis Cup doesn't currently have a title sponsor. For a fully merged event, they would have to have the same commercial model, and I can't see that happening in the short term.

If we get through that, we play Germany or Israel in September (not sure of venue?). I would put a link but I cant get DC site to open at the moment.

Away in Japan sounds tricky. The last time GB faced Germany in home/away format was in a QF Munich in 73, as far as I can understand.

Japan named their team on Xmas Day: Nishioka, Daniel, Nishikori, Watanuki, Yuzuki. Tough opponents, particularly with Draper absent. Tomorrow we get a potential DC clash when Nishikori plays Norrie in Hong Kong.

GB team should be announced on Monday 6 Jan.

Norrie, Jake, Henry and Neal would seem likely to be 4 of them, unless you made a case for Henry and Julian as a pair- if they still get on, might make sense?

Evo or Billy a real head scratcher! Not a choice Id like to make.

Surely the Joe & Neal partnership is a doubles consideration. Though I don't know what the Joe "illness" is that has caused them to withdraw from Brisbane?

I was thinking Dan but Bily is impressing.

I missed Joe and Neal pulling out - and that Henry lost first round - doesnt look like its been a top doubles week this week although ive not really followed the results.

Feel like Julian, Lloyd, Luke, Jamie all are pretty close with Joe and Neal and maybe even Henry right now? maybe not in terms of rankings but in general terms

Henry for me is the best doubles player in the world right now, or at least has the potential to be. Big lefty serve, huge wingspan at the net and has a short backswing on his returns meaning he can wait until the last possible moment to decide where to hit it so he finds the space so well.
