They got 27 of the 32 seeds through into round 2. Not sure how round 2 went, but that doesnt seem a bad effort from the seeding folks, certainly not compared to most pro events

Maybe more luck of the draw. The way seedings are done is a joke and incentivise players to not play once they've qualified for the championships as they are penalised in their ranking score for any losses, so better not to play. Most of the top seeds have played very few matches. Oli doesn't even have a full compliment of wins, which partly explains why he is only 7th seed. Its notable that most of the seeds that were lowly ranked in the pre-season rankings and got seeded off the back of a handful of wins at the All-Americans have been knocked out.

Scores in the morning but doubles going pretty much as expected. Doubles wins for all the men with just Henry and Lui left to play Lily+ lost despite being the better team for a set and a half. Given+ also lost. Grace+ is a set and a break to the good.
Henry+ came within 2 points of making it a clean sweep for the men's doubles but lost the last 5 points to give away a 8-5 lead in the MTB. Lui and Pedro, some people's favourites for the title although I'm not so sure with them still being involved in the singles, had to win a tie-break and a MTB to get through.

As the draw thins out, we're left with mostly those that we'd expect to reach this stage although there are still a few imposters that have benefited from a weak section of the draw. 11 of the 16 seeds remain in the men's draw but the men's top seed went out yesterday, although he shouldn't really have been top seed bearing in mind he was playing No 5 for TCU in May and hasn't played for 2 months. The interesting match from the top quarter is Kim v Suresh and the winner of this I fancy to be the semi-finalist from this quarter.
In the other quarter of the top half of the draw, the unseeded pre-season No 1 is through to the last 16 and should beat TCU's Vives to get to the QF where he'll meet either Jay Friend or Tennessee's Mitsui.
In the bottom half of the draw, the stand-out match of the round for the men is between Colton Smith [3] and Timo Legout [9-16]. Whoever wins that should win their QF tomorrow to be the semi-finalist from this quarter. The 2nd seeds quarter, which includes Lui, is the weakest of the quarters and Lui and 2nd seed Zheng should get through to the QFs.
In the women's draw 9 of the 16 seeds remain. The women's draw was more unbalanced than the men's and so there's a mix of players you'd expect, some which were are not surprising and perhaps 1 or 2 that were not expected. The only seed remaining in the #1 seed's quarter is the #1 seed who should comfortably make it through the remaining rounds to the final. Stanford freshman, Glozman, has through to the last 16 with UNC's Theadora Rabman standing in her way of the QFs in the tie of the round for the top half of the draw.
3 of the 4 players remaining in the 3rd quarter you'd be surprised not to see in the top 16 come the end of the season and not much else to say about that quarter. The bottom quarter is by far the toughest quarter in either of the men's or women's draw. The 4 remaining players left in this quarter are 4 of the 5 highest ranked pre-season ranking players who were in the singles draw. These are 2nd seed and pre-season #2 Vidmanova, pre-season #8 Broadus and 6th seed pre-season #4 Connie Ma and unseeded pre-season #9 Khirin. Vidmanova v Broadus is the tie of the round in the women's draw closely followed by Ma v Khirin.
So some tasty matches, but for some reason the organisers have decided to schedule 12 of the 16 singles matches to start at 10am local. I mean really? Couldn't they be spread out? Most of them are not playing doubles. Not good for fans to follow and not good for the broadcaster to cover and tell the story.

Major upsets as both the men's and women's favourites go out.
Mary Stoiana [1] lost 3 & 0 and there are no seeds left in this quarter. This was Sofia's quarter and although it would have been a big ask to get a win against an opponent who knocked out the top seed and No 1 player for the last year, the way the draw has opened up, this was a great opportunity to go deep missed. SF would have been possible.
