Was very good to see Sir Mark Cavendish so acknowledged with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
What a cycling lifetime, certainly not without its tribulations before taking the most Tour de France stage wins record in his final season and bowing out last month winning his final race.
I didnt see any of SPOTY this year - didnt it historically always be a Sunday evening? - as Im working away this week. Maybe me not checking in, but it felt a bit low key to me and I didnt feel that inspired across the board - which seems strange as a) Im a broad and avid sports fan b) Olympic year and I always love the Olympics
Yes, it was traditionally a huge Sunday night event
Much of the issue is surely that the BBC doesn't actually broadcast much of the top sporting action ( or even have rights to show it? ) which has diluted what was once almost as much a 'Look At What Another Great Year of Great BBC Sport We Have Brought You' show as anything else.
I saw odd bits of it & have no problems with the win for Keely Hodgkinson (though I do think she could have chosen a more elegant dress!), but was bitterly disappointed that Alex Yee didn't get the runner-up slot.

Yeah, agreed - I would have liked Alex to get a more prominent position.
I see he is targeting the London Marathon next year, dont know whether he will step back a little from triathlon whilst he prioritises his running in the lead up to that; hope he doesnt go back to running totally, he is too talented a triathlete and his rivarly with Hayden Wilde is one that can continue to develop, they have had some real battles.
With triathlon, the BBC dont help with the commentating on it - some of the worst commentators across all sports!
Plus the different categories (from sprint, through Olympic, through the longer distance levels such as Ironman etc), and genres such as SuperTri (or whatever it is called now) can confuse a little when one follows the sport at a relative distance, as I do.
