Other events, 2025 - week 1

The TCBB U12 Cat 1 event is taking place in France this week

It has been won by Holge Rune, Ekaterina Makarova, Ostapenko, Blancaneaux, Kiki Mladenovic etc etc

A presitgious event, which usually has a lot of GB interest

(There are also - of course - a lot of winners who do not go on to figure in any significant way in adult pro tennis - including, unfortunately, several of the GB winners, such as Andrea Pineda, Anastasia Mikheeva, Ross Wilson etc)

This year the main interst was in the girls - which was going well until the last 16 where it all went south

Coco Witton, Milla Bray and Lainee Ngassam (q) all made it through to the L16, with some good victories, cut then lost their L16 matches quite easily

First title of the year in juniors goes to Liam

J60 Belgium

Liam+ won the doubles final, 6-3 6-4

Liam lost his singles semis in three sets but this will be a nice boost to his ranking which should be a lot higher than it is

Good to see Liam progressing. He was highly tough of a few years ago. Wonder why things havent quite worked out so far?

Hes done very well still - J100 doubles wins, national titles etc. He hasnt competed in as many events as some have - I think thats all really. Couple of unlucky draws as well.

I assumed it might have been schooling?

Because he seems to have played a lot of events from June 2024 onwards but relatively few before that?

But glad to hear he's not been injured - he's a lad I like (as said before) and I always follow his results

Might be interested to hear that Matyas Oprchal has made the final of the Lemon Bowl which has a history since 1985. He is playing in the U12 event and faces a player from Serbia in the final. Match is scheduled for 10.30am UK time tomorrow and there might be a stream available here: www.sporfie.com/it/foroitalico-maindraw

The final is going to be played at the Foro Italico!

Don't know much about Matyas but I think he did well at the National Juniors last year?

Matyas takes the title 6-4 6-1

After being 3-0 down in the 1st set he managed to find his rhythm and then since then never really looked back.

Well done to him!
