Cornelia Oosthuizen is very near to catching Lucy Shuker as British #1. Lucy loses 100 points from French Open and later Wimbledon in a few weeks time. But she replaces them with counters that will just keep her above Cornelia. However, action soon turns to the grass in Eastbourne, Roehampton and Wimbledon, where both ladies should be playing in all 3 events (they should get Wimbledon wild cards, in a 16 draw, despite not qualifying as of right)
In the womens singles rankings, Lucy is still top but just one spot (18 v 19) ahead of Cornelia. They are both playing in a Series 3 level event this week in Cervia, Italy. Lucy is top seed, Cornelia is 2. Abby Breakwell and Ruby Bishop both play as well.
Interesting to see how it goes if they both play in the final, head to head
In summary - Nottingham - exhibition matches - Lucy Shuker v Cornelia Oosthuizen; Andy Laphorne v Greg Slade and then a mixed doubles with these 4 playing
Queens - exhibition GB v Spain - Alfie and Gordon take on Caverzachi and de la Puente in singles semis (Alfie v Caverzachi, Gordon v de la Puente) and then a singles semi and doubles match
Eastbourne - At this years Lexus Eastbourne Open, mens, womens and quad wheelchair tennis returns to Devonshire Park as part of an ITF1 series event on the UNIQLO Wheelchair World Tennis Tour, with British interest including Gordon Reid in the mens draw, Lucy Shuker in the womens draw, and Andy Lapthorne in the quad draw.
Roehampton - the wheelchair contingent will travel to South West London for their final Wimbledon preparations, as the Lexus British Open Roehampton gets underway. Last year, Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid reached the final and semi-final respectively of the ITF1 event, hosted alongside an ITF J300 junior event, with each hoping to go one better this time round as they prepare to defend titles at The Championships, Wimbledon.
In Cervia, Italy, Cornelia Oosthuizen kept the pressure on Lucy by winning her semi over Abbie Breakwell and into the final. She might have expected to play Lucy there - will have expected - but it wasn't to be as Lucy lost her semi to Venter of South Africa.
So, what does this mean for the battle for the top British ranking?
As of today, Lucy is on 825 points. She doesn't appear to be losing any, and her 55 points from this event won't improve her final counter, so she should exit the event on 825
Cornelia is 767 pts. She also won't have any points drop off and will gain a nett 19 if she loses the final or a nett 54 if she wins it. 54 will take her 821 points, so tantalisingly close to Lucy but not quite there - 4 points gap.
I may have that all wrong but pretty sure we won't see Lucy usurped this week. Meaning the grass events in Eastbourne, Roehampton and Wimbledon become important.
In those Cornelia is not defending any points. Lucy has 100 from Wimbledon to defend and then Eastbourne is her next best non counter, as well as a French event from late June that will also fall away. Her best counter she can use is 55 points, so over the grass she will drop 45 points I believe.
So, it leaves them close but Cornelia just needs to perform at the same level as Lucy on the grass and she should make it. The issue is will Cornelia (or Lucy) get into the 3 grass events as they are relatively small fields - last season, Lucy was the only Brit playing Wimbledon. A Brit to get in will need a wild card - who would they give it to may be a key question.

Cornelia rises to 18 and Lucy still at 17. Just 39 points between them now. Not sure who is playing what in terms of Eastbourne, Roehampton (British Open) . Both obviously at Wimbledon
All 10 of the quarterfinals (quad event has 2 byes) take place today. Eastbourne have allocated court 4 to the mens, court 5 womens, and court 12 to the quad event.
Mens singles - Gordon withdrew and was replaced by Andrew Penney, a Brit also. Penney lost to Ben Bartram 1 and 1. Ben into the semis and plays Spaargaren.
Womens singles - Cornelia lost in 3 sets to Zhu; Lucy beat Ruby Bishop in 2 sets and plays second seed Bernal in the semis
Quad singles - Andy Lapthorne and Greg Slade despatched the Cox Bros and Andy plays Sam Schroder and Greg plays Kaplan in the semis.
All the doubles are just 3 pair draws so Ill leave them to it!
In the quad doubles, though, Andy plays with Greg and not Sam Shroder, who hes played with most of this season - not sure if they will get back together for Wimbledon?
