Why does Katie struggle at the slams? Shes the opposite of Emma

Brilliant

The third set was the best level of the three - Marino was hitting SUCH heavy balls

I'm sure Alex helped :)

That was... unconvincing. But she won! Katie always looks terrified in Slams to be honest, pressure I guess. Clung on for dear life at times in the third but pleased the scoreboard pressure got to Marino at the final stage, she was hitting a big ball.

Kudermetova thrashed Gadecki 6-1 6-1, she might be finding form. But her GS career is hardly stellar either!

Anisimova hasn't started the year in any scary form, but then again, neither has Emma. That could be a chance but Anisimova definitely the front runner.

I'd be shocked if we had more than 1 through.

I make it that there are 5 nations with 4 or more women through to R2:

1. Russia 9
2. USA 8
3= GB 4
3= China 4
3= Germany 4

Among these on just 1 are France ( and as CD said not born or raised there ), the Czech Republic ( I had separately been thinking lately haven't the great Czech youngsters often failed to really progress ) and ( kind of related ) Slovakia

Jodie gets the first match of the night session on Rod Laver
Harriet has the last match on Court 3
Plenty of men's action in singles and doubles

Cant remember any previous occasion when we had 4 women through to a foreign GS R2... anybody know when last this happened?

Great to see a record of 6 Brits through to AO R2. Do we think that the LTA are turning a corner and investment is more focused...  or something else?

1987 was the last time we had 4 women through to R2 in Australia (so says Jo Durie)
