Weeks 3 & 4 - Australian Open - Main Draw - Melbourne (Hard)

Even if Emma's second serve improves she's always struggled against big hitters, will be surprised if she doesn't lose in straight sets.

I was rather shocked to hear Katie saying that she was hearing the noise from Rod Laver Arena and wondering how Alex was doing. And reckoned that it did effect her to an extent. Understandable or not, indeed it certainly can't have helped her focus on playing her best tennis ( well until he finished and then appeared coirtside ).

Jodie doing fine, and looks to be enjoying it rather than being very tight. I do think she's giving Coco a bit too much respect at times, feeling she needs to go a ball or two early when she's capable of trading. But she's always gone for it hasn't she.

A little frustrating with some opportunities missed. She was broken at the start of each set from game point, and then could have done better with a break back point there. Getting a bit frustrated now.

3-6 *0-2

Some wonderful play from Jodie here

These two double faults though!

It was a big ask for Jodie but she gave it her best shot and you cant expect more than that.

Very creditable effort indeed - the bad game at *5-3 really did it for her, though...she lost a lot of steam after that.

Harriet has also started very decently against Vekic...she was a double-break up but has been pegged back to one, but still with her nose in front.

[LL] Harriet Dart GBR *4-3 [18] Donna Vekic CRO

R2:- Jodie Burrage (GBR) SR86 WR173 lost to Coco Gauff (USA) WR3 [3] 3-6 5-7

She should be very proud of herself - many players in the draw wouldn't have been able to get that close to the in-form player of the year

Its a shame that Jodie couldnt take the second when she served for it. Thought she played well though. If she continues like like she will get back to top 100 and maybe towards top 50

Well played Jodie. Was that Nigel Sears in her box or just a lookalike ?

That period from *1-3 to *5-3 was phenomenal, and should give her so much belief and motivation. Ok it went a bit wobbly from there but Gauff is phenomenal, and she was right there.

Serves out easily. Playing well, absorbing and redirecting pace beautifully and stepping up and in to be aggressive herself, deep into the corners particularly.

Nice job.

Misses two break back points. Vekic playing w little bit better and it's enough to swing this one considerable.

Hopefully Alex will be done and dusted before Katie starts on Thursday.

Alex is 2nd up on Rod Laver, after Swiatek vs Sramkova. Katie is 4th and last on Court 3.

Good play from Harriet to break but a swift break back from Vekic who's got her eye in on these returns now.
