Weeks 3 & 4 - Australian Open - Main Draw - Melbourne (Hard)

Yeah, it's worked out well for her. Finally gets a night match to silence any critics, but against a LL who is 25/1 at SkyBet (and 28/1 at other places) which is crazy for a L16 match in BO3. On at 7pm as well, so not having to follow a BO5 match like many women have this past week, and not knowing whether they'll get on at 9.30pm or nearer 11pm.

The two women's matches I'm most interested in today are typically at the worst times for the UK market, ha.3

Iga as  ruthless with Eva as she was with Emma, At one stage  Iga had won 20 games in a row. Emma really unlucky to draw Iga in  the 3rd round. Would have had a better chance against any other opponent.

Couple of fantastic matches in the women's event today. Navarro-Kasatkina was a real rollercoaster and excellent win for Keys in a fun match. Happy to see Svitolina win too

Pretty solid Qf line up from the women! No unseeded players. They've all made slam QFs before, I think Badosa is the only one who hasn't made a SF before?

3 of the top 4 still in. Promises to be some good shows! Swiatek has demolished her opposition so far, but the clips I've seen of Gauff - wow! She seems to have improved that forehand massively, and as such her game looks pretty complete. Exciting to see!

3 x USA

1 x Spain

1 x Poland

1 v Ukraine

1 x Belarussia

1 x Russia

Average age: 26 yrs 4 months (approx)

Age range: 20 years old - 33 years old

Average height: 176.38 cm

Height range: 170 cm - 182 cm (only one player under 174 cm)

Average junior ranking is a bit of a nonsense as there is one complete outlier

Instead: 3 players are former junior #1

6 players (3 +3) are former junior top-10

Another was top-20

And then there's Sabalenka at #225

Yeah, Navarro beat Badosa in the USO QF a few months ago to make her first SF. Pavs had her first and only slam SF en route to the 2021 Roland Garros Final. The rest (bar Badosa) all have multiple slam SFs.

I was looking and the last time there were no unseeded players in a slam QF line up was USO 2023, and before that USO 2019, so it doesn't happen too often.

The women in the top half have their own start time and play on RLA before the men. Gauff-Badosa at 12.30am UK, Sabalenka-Pav at 8am UK.

Badosa into her first ever slam semi final, and officially back inside the top 10 now. smile

She played Gauff in the Beijing SF in October and was the slight 1.80 or 4/5 pre match favourite and was also 6-4 4-2 up, but ended up losing. Gauff went on to win that title, won the WTA Finals, and started the year 9-0, so this time, only 3 months later, Badosa was (rightly) a near 3/1 underdog. It's great that she's starting to make an impact in slams and playing some of her best stuff, just when it looked like her career may have been over 11 months prior.

Faces her good friend Sabalenka in the semi final, who had a bit of a scare against Pavlyuchenkova in the later match, twice down a break in the decider, but came through 6-3 in the end.

Keys-Svitolina at 12.30am UK, directly followed by Swiatek-Navarro.

Keys got through to face Swiatek in the semis; sabalenka and Badosa in the other

Reconsidering Emmas performance against Iga, maybe now doesnt look as devastating as it did at the time. Over last three matches,
Iga beats Srmakova 2 and 0 round 2, then Emma, 1 and 0, Llys 0 and 1 and now Navarro number 8 seed 1 and 2

Clear double bounce for Swiatek today - no one can tell me she didnt know!

x.com/josemorgado/status/1881915665214534126

And daft the Navarro cant challenge it as she played the point out - what shes expected to do?

Look. Swiatek would have won anyway - but Im not sure she goes about things the way I like to see. Not a fan.

It's certainly a very stupid tule that the other player needs to stop the point right there. It's ridiculous to expect them to process it all in that moment and come to such a decision, you more naturally react and play on but with that doubt in your mind. Hopefully the controversy over this latest incident helps common sense reign, they change it to allow reviews for such incidents at the end of points, and points are awarded correctly.
