I'm surprised so many of you are surprised by this result. He might be a qualifier and only 18 but he's also the current NextGen champion.
But NextGen doesn't mean you're set to breakthrough straight away. In 2023, Medjedovic won and he's currently at #98 with 0 GS MD wins. 2022 it was Nakashima who was looking good and made two 4Rs, however, I think some injuries derailed his progress.
Fair enough, the prior years were Alcaraz, Sinner and Tsitsipas.

You're absolutely right
And even Alcaraz, Sinner and Tsitsipas didn't go and obliterate a top-10 player two months after winning their Next Gen final
Is the same player Billy Harris and Jan Choinski both beat in the last 2 months? ;)
And Henry beat in straight sets in Junior Wimbledon quarters. (Sorry if already been mentioned).
Judging from his own words about his improvement both mentally and physically, he isn't the same player that was at Wimbledon and is learning at a great rate from the high ranked players he's now playing against, so maybe not even the 'same player' Billy and Jan played
Slightly worried about Jack tomorrow. He's never looked that convincing in Australia and a pumped up Kokkinakis in front of a home crowd could be a tough one. I've stuck a fiver on the Aussie, but obvs hoping that Jack proves me wrong.
Jake's match seems 50:50 but pretty decent chance to make round 3 and a shot at Salty Sascha
Re Fonseca, he lost only 12 games in his 3 qualifying matches and won the 125 Challenger in Canberra, beating Jacob on the way. He has won 9 consecutive matches without dropping a set. At least Rublev took him to a couple of tie breakers, which no one else has this year. If he can stay healthy and maintain this level, he will surely be top 20 by the year's end.
Both our guys seem to be in fights at the moment, Jake has got himself a break up and set all, seems to be getting more on top now; Jack a set all and currently on serve in the third.
Jack didn't manage to break in a 22 point game ( though just had 2 BPs during it ) then broken to 15. And will now have to go 5 sets again if he is going to get through.
