Very few players can win again having won back to back 5 setters
Bah! Go, Jack!
And if it helps knock this argument over, Vukic has also won 2 back to back 5 setters to get to play Jack - one of them has to win, and Jacks the one with the pedigree
Well, I wrote Jack off too soon. Will be massive if he turns this around. Could go well over 4 hours as well.
Fingers crossed.
Re Kokkinakis - his issue has always been application with a degree of injury. He reminds me of a Jack Sock in terms of not really hitting what I think his potential is - agree that 65 is a long way off top 20 and, now, he probably never will make top 20, and yes, top 40 probably is his limit - but he could have been a contender, as one famous movie once said.
That AO doubles triumph with Kyrgios show cased his talent, just never applied it in singles - which is where the Jack Sock comparisons start to come in for me. Sock - what a waste, he should have been a top 20 and even top 10 regular and he's now playing pickleball and looking a bit fat!
Yeah Sock's a strange one. I remember back in 2013 he was being bigged up as a world-beater and that serve-forehand combo always looked fearsome but it never quite happened for him, apart from that one random year at the Paris Masters where he tore everyone to shreds
Except Kyle who had him down 1-5 in the decider before losing on a TB.
Jack Draper speaking after booking his spot in the third round of the Australian Open: "That was a really tough match. Thanasi Kokkinakis is an unbelievable player, someone who I have great respect for. Every time I play him he brings his best tennis and especially here in Australia, he's so dangerous. I'm really proud of the way I competed today and I eventually came through, I'm very happy about that."
On Kokkinakis' ongoing injuries: "It's difficult. Credit to him. I think he was hurting quite a lot and obviously he pulled out last week and had a really long match in his first match. He came out here and he gave it his all until the end. He obviously was hurting, but credit to him, it was a great fight today."
More from Jack Draper on his off-season: "I didn't play for a few weeks in the off-season. I was on the side lines not really playing, so I didn't know if I was going to be fit to come here. I know that my tennis is improving. This match would have really helped me again. My first match was four hours. I don't want to be out here for that long, but I'm getting better with each set and I'm really proud with the way I'm going about my tennis."
On feeding off the crowd: "This is what I play for since I was a young guy. I wanted to play in front of big crowds and whether you guys are with me or against me, it was a tough atmosphere to deal with. You guys were obviously all with Thanasi, but I had a little fun as well. It was so good to be out here and really happy with the amount of support we get here at these big tournaments. It's unbelievable."

Oh yeah forgot that. Perhaps that was Kyle's best chance of going super deep in a Masters

Wasn't Sock dating Katie Boulter back in the day, too?
Excellent pair of results, which didn't look likely this morning. Well done chaps. Cazaux had some noisy French fans.
Another offering from the Beeb: our girls' & boys' thoughts on the rowdiness of & disruption caused by the AO crowds. Fancy having a bar on one of the courts!

Definitely something they need to keep am eye on. But I do like the Jack and Jake attitudes. Jack is definitely one not to take a backwards step.

Is this the Village? It was trailed in October as being a big crowd puller, but clearly was always going to be an interesting exercise!
