Thanks Jon for another great year of PoMs and the PoS finale.
A very good winner in Katie. My choice so clearly happy but I saw the cases for others, particularly Jake. Hope other supporters are not too disappointed, and ultimately we of course go with the biggest vote which is fair enough ( well other than Billy outrageously not winning last year )
I liked what this year seemed more detailed reasoning for some of the votes - nice to get additional info such as, for me, college stuff.
Maybe a place too ( controversially? ) for arguments against. For instance I indicated that I had personally discounted Henry in the final vote basically on singles vs doubles ( when there are very good singles candidates, as there should be in the final ) and I questioned the relevance of Jake's end of 2023 official ranking. Hope I didn't annoy anyone. But generally a certain too and fro might add more life while bringing some clarity as well?
I quite like a final 4 ( certainly wouldn't have any more in the final ) but I have also thought about a final final 2 way run-off, as Andy suggests.
Hi Indy - thanks, appreciate the thanks, as always as I know you are a supporter of this!
For me, I would certainly like more insights and supporting comments from folks, and I definitely keen to have arguments against, they are totally valid and I dont see how anyone can be disappointed/upset. The more I can get away from my constant chivvying for votes and allow the thread to have life, the better. So totally support that.
The final 2 idea is something to consider, and it I tighten up the timescales a bit, which I can do, then it can fit into the process. Completing the December PoM, through PoS Wildcards, through 3 rounds of PoS and then a 2 player final between end Dec and AO starting, is doable, just!
Jon - it was a great competition and fantastically run by you - no doubt lots of work and a huge amount of updates, so I hope it didn't come across as a criticism. Oh and Katie won - and that was who I wanted, so win win and well done for all your hard work.
Now fingers crossed for Katie, that she can progress and improve again in 2025, and the same goes for all of our players - so many young, talented players coming through, which bodes well for the next few years I think.
No, not at all - took it as a compliment!
I enjoy the process of setting it up and running the process, the updates I see as a means to an end to try and get voters - I hate being hung up on numbers and would love it if we generally found a way to get more comment or banter in the voting process, so that the poll stays in the minds eye. Although not sure how we get voters who see it and dont vote to vote - I know some like SC or maybe Paulisi ( I think) arent into this sort of stuff and dont take part, which I respect, but I am sure others pass by and for whatever reason just dont have a vote and that feels like a miss.
If 100 people pass by in a day, getting more than 50 to vote doesnt seem too much like an ask, my query is how to achieve it!!!
Although a newbie when it comes to posting, I have been a member of the forum for several years .. reading comments and reports on performances. As newbie to posting you drew my attention to a Player of the Month vote and where to find it. Thus I actively looked for the Player of the Year. You put a great deal of effort into this and your organisation of the vote was very impressive. Well done! Personally I am surprised by the number of votes. I would have expected more. It's certainly not a reflection of your organisation of the vote. However, rather than being a sub-section of General there could be a Players of the Month/Season at the top level. Perhaps that would draw more voters?
Thanks again for running this for running this for another year, Jon. I've said it before but one of the things I love about this competition is how it shines a spotlight on players and their achievements that I'd otherwise miss. All your hard work (and chivvying) is much appreciated here.

Thanks Boothy. And appreciate the words. It would be great if we could have a sub section for it - other creating a thread (as opposed to a section) there doesnt seem to be a way. Im not sure if Indy or Sheddie know more?
when i post, I sometimes spam other event threads to pull attention to it with a link; but realise that annoys some people when I do ! So I didnt this time. I think people can see posts in the thread in their most recent posts list if they choose to look at the board in that way? I personally dont - I look at the list of sections and see where it says there are new posts.
Finding a way to make it more available and increase the votes would be great though !

Thanks Tanaqui and for being nominator in chief when it comes to the PoM process!
I did end up voting, purely because it's a wasted vote and won't affect anything! What's apparent is how great of a season so many Brits have had this year, hopefully 2025 continues to be great.
However you set up the voting system it will always lead to some problems. Kenneth Arrow got a Nobel for showing this for a class of voting systems en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrow%27s_impossibility_theorem So, Jon, I would not worry about tweaking it for marginal gains. The important thing is to make it easy for you to run it.
Disclaimer: I voted for Katie so I suppose I would be pleased with how it turned out.

Definitely and hope Henry is one of those who has a great 2025, starting down in Oz!!

Haha, I will read that with interest. Thanks Mdewey - I never worry about the result, it is more that it is backed up with a respectable volume of votes to give it more authority! But Katie was definitely deserving - although I think all 4 and maybe one or two more were also deserving!
A few tweaks will be included, main one being to start PoM votes on a Monday morning, but they are tweaks and it largely works well for me!
Re earlier me know nothing re creating sections / subsections. Sheddie is your man ( Steven is not much around and I suspect he too would have to pass it on ).
