Sir Andy Murray 2025 Player of the Month and Season Awards - overview thread

Approaching the end of month 4, only two players have received 3 monthly nominations so far - Lloyd and Julian.

A number of players have got 2 nominations but in general this season, the love is being spread and not many players have yet got the accolade more than once. Perhaps the British are generally not yet showing consistency of performance compared to expectations? Or more generally, the noteworthy performances are coming from a much wider pool.

if you add PoS titles into the mix, Joe also has 4 (2 PoS and 2 PoM titles).

So Henrys January win takes him up to all time equal top man in terms of PoM wins. With Cam and Dan not looking likely to win one anytime soon, Henry could take the lead in his own in the near future. Perhaps.

For now, Fran leads the way still.

A reminder that Fran has won the most of these PoM titles over the seasons. None of the leaders are in the mix this time with the exception of Sonay, who has 4 to her name. Another this month will take her to equal second with Emma on the all time list.

5 - Emma, Sonay
4 - Cam, Dan, Henry P

For now, Fran leads the way still. But any of Emma, Sonay and Henry seem to be form and could well bag more titles. And maybe Cam is slowly returning as well.

With his nomination for this months PoM, Jack D joins Lloyd/Julian as the only 2 players with 3 nominations so far this season. A few have 2 nominations, including Fran and Sonay who are the only two women with more than one nomination.

Some may be interested in how I sort out the player of the season groups. Once we have our qualifiers, which has been 28 each year for the past three years, I actually initially seed the players (quietly and secretly) based on a complex algorithm that takes into account POM performances, grand slam performances, being a British number one or two, Pom nominations over the season and tournament wins. I shared the algorithm with one other person who described it as bonkers but brilliant (I am paraphrasing).

The seeding allows me to put players into groups of 4 ( a bit like pots in the football World Cup) and these pots makes sure I avoid those players meeting in a group.

I them work down the pots allocating players to groups in order. A bit like the World Cup, where FIFA keep political rivals apart, I do the same to keep men and women evenly distributed, doubles players spread across the groups, same for juniors and wheelchair players.

It seems to work out and has led to a nice even split. Of course, this is all to come in around 8 months time, but just in case anyone wondered, thats the magic that happens behind the scenes!
