In the doubles Oli+ take on a most unlikely sounding German pair

Girls Doubles R2

(1) Sonobe/Stojsavljevic (JPN/GBR) d. Iyengar/ Perapekhina (USA/***) 6-2 6-2
Wang/Yodpetch (CHN/THA) d. Black/Xu 2-6 6-3 [10-5]
(2) Jones/Klugman (AUS/GBR) d. Pohankova/Vandromme (SVK/BEL) 2-6 6-4 [10-8]

QF

(1) Sonobe/Stojsavljevic (JPN/GBR) v (5) Kovackova/Kovackova (CZE)
Wang/Yodpetch (CHN/THA) v (2) Jones/Klugman (AUS/GBR)

Boys Doubles R2

(1) Bonding/Leach (GBR/USA) d. Chen/Kim (TPE/KOR) 7-5 6-2

QF

(1) Bonding/Leach (GBR/USA) v Mackenzie/McDonald (GER)

So Jamie Mackenzie appears to originally come from Australia and has an impressive head of hair: https://www.redrockettennis.com/

Niels McDonald has a German first name.

Can anyone think of another doubles team whose surnames spell the name of a singles player (Mackenzie McDonald). Answers on a postcard...

Oh - are they current singles and doubles or past? Otherwise itll be a long think if you dont give a clue!

Disappointing singles day:

Brooke lost in 2 sets - great week for her though

Mimi also lost in 2 sets - disappointingly I think

Hannah is about to lose in 3 sets after taking the opener, Vandromme is serving for the match at 5-2

And Hannah goes down, so there the singles ends, perhaps quicker than we might have expected overall although Hannah and Brooke probably didnt expect to win?

Brooke seemingly had a thigh injury - which is really not surprising, given the amount of top level tennis she's played these past two weeks

Hannah played some good aggressive tennis again, but then lost her way a little and Jeline played better and better. Still a lot of positives this week from her.

Somewhat surprised to see Mimi lose in two sets, given she beat Lilli at the US Open a few months ago - will have to watch the match back again

Hannah's doubles still to come

Mika & Wakana are currently winning their doubles easily

Wild swing second set for Mika+ - 6-1, 0-5?!

Mika had strapping on her left thigh
Wakan on her right thigh
A great pair

But I don't think that was an issue

Wakana was hitting pretty wildly and Mika is not a natural doubles player - with her height and stretch she should be far more of a presence against two tiny girls but she shies away from the ball at the net

They lost 1-6 6-0 10-7

And out they go, in the MTB. That was a disappointing swing around.

Oli and Hannah still to come I think? In doubles.

Oh dear. Thought one would have come through. Mimi and Mika in the W75 in Brisbane next week, so fingers crossed they rise to the senior challenge.

Sadly not. Now I will have to get my thinking cap on.

A disappointing end to the juniors, although not surprising that Brooke has an injury. A great trip for her.

I forget that she's still only 15, but Hannah hasn't progressed beyond the third round at her last 5 Slams. Still it's not a sprint, and she's no less talented.

Well, I don't want to perpetuate racial stereotypes (), and I don't know which one's which, but one of those German-Scottish Mackenzie/Macdonald lads is very ginger, bless him

And with two screens up, you get to see both Oli+ and Hannah+ just about manage to both close out their doubles

Although not without a fair bit of stress for their teams....
