Boys & Girls: 2025 Australian Open, hard (Week 4)

He's only a junior by 25 days because, if he'd been born 25 days before, on 31st Dec, he'd be a 2006-er and so not a junior this year

It's calendar year. This year, if you're born in 2007, or younger, you're a junior for all events in 2025. No matter if you're botn in Jan or Dec.

Thanks CD, get it. Be interesting to see if he carries on in juniors or moves to seniors for the rest of the year.

Bernet has been under the spotlight in Switzerland for some time. He has a single handed backhand (like a certain RF), about to start work with Severin Luthi (former coach of RF) and has just signed with clothing manufacturer On (part owned by...you know where I'm going here).

Difficult to tell how good he is as he as he hasn't had huge junior success, but still only 18.

Yes, he's good to watch. Mark Petchey on commentary said "a familiar sight of a Swiss player with a one-handed backhand picking up a trophy in Australia".  He was the first current junior to reach an ATP 125 challenger quarter-final, and beat Fabio Fognini on his ATP debut (Basle qualifying)
