Is Vondrousova fit? She has only played 2 matches since Wimbledon one of which she retired in.

Ah, having got back from *0-5 to *4-5 in the second set, Sonay was broken again to lose the set.

6-3 4-6

Hopefully what was working well for most of the second half of set 2 will work well in set 3.

Shame about the last 3 games from *4-3 which were borderline diabolical. But even if this was a missed opportunity, coming through qualifiers at this level is a good achievement and another step in the right direction as she gets used to playing at this level every week.

Onwards! And hope the legs ok, she seemed to be moving alright to me.

She had her chances but has done really well to be in the Main Draw of a WTA tournament.

Hope she enjoyed this and will soon become a common occurence, though hopefully winning next time smile

Sonay went a break ahead and was immediately broken back 3 times from 1-1* to 4-4* ( there were 15 breaks of serve in total in the match so just over half the games ).

Pity it went so pear-shaped at the end. Very good to qualify but today was also very winnable.

I see that Jeremy Bates was there in Sonays box. Is that a new set up? Worrying if so.

Also, does anybody know why Katie withdrew? I see shes been training at the NTC so hopefully not injured.

Maybe Katie heard that Jeremy Bates would be in the proximity. Seriously I hope all is OK with her.
