I'm pleased to see Angelica Blake on the entry list for Manchester, albeit without rankings of any sort putting her near the very bottom of the alts. I was wondering when she was going to be ready to try pros. Too soon to guess a wild card?
If you're not familiar with her, she played college tennis at Stanford, playing No 1 in her postgraduate year last year. There's more in her player thread if you want to know/ask more.
The number of Brits in the Manchester event and the previous weeks W50 seems very light - even when wild cards are added; do events of this level always get such strong womens entries?
In fact very few British women playing at all this week, surprising for back end of Feb?
There are plenty entered - and there will be rather more onto MD and qualifying lists, especially in Manchester, once players have withdrawn by entry deadline date ( and some later on ).
For Manchester, so far Banks has joined Watson on the MD list and McDonald and Appleton are onto the qualifying list.
Currently the last person on the Q list has an entry rank of 433 and with our relative lack of depth no-one else after our current GB #s 10 and 11, McDonald and Appleton, get on. Banks, McDonald and Appleton are the first 3 GB playets one would look to to be here ( # 8 Miiyazaki and above normally at higher events, though yes in this case Watson is on the list ).
But the required entry ranking will no doubt fall a fair bit and some of our other players entered and lined up on the alts list may get into Q directly. Clearly there will also be MD and Q WCs.
We currently have 9 further top 1000 players, GB ranked 13 to 31 ( WR 473 to 927 ) on the alts list - Rajecki, Stoiber, Gillan, Christie, Stojsavljevic, Barnes, Oluwadare, Adeshina, Hutchinson. Plus another 5 ranked players ( and loads of unranked players ) beyond them.
As has been said before, regarding GB players not too much notice should necessarily be taken of early MD and Q lists for British events. They will often look skimpy.

no, youre right and I have been told that before - I tend not to look much at the womens entry lists and it always catches me out how skinny they are compared to our mens though!

The withdrawal deadline has passed. The lists won't change that much, although I would expect enough further withdrawals for 1 or 2 more GB players to get into qualifying directly (unless its like Glasgow with only 6 in the main draw or qualifying lists withdrawing after the withdrawal deadline).
If I new they had put an event on in Manchester I would have gone for a few days. Which venue?
I've checked and it is Sportcity.
They have not played there for years, probably due to the lack of catering facilities.
I went last time they played. It must have been 10 years ago as Anna Smith was playing, Sabrina Frederici was a junior. Katie Boulter and Katy Dunne were just starting out, they must have been 16 or 17.
In fact it was the search for Steven and Katy asked if I was Steven......
