Week 6 - WTA125 - Mumbai, India - Hard

49 points for Eden, but she's dropping 49 points from Grenoble last year, so no gain yet.

At the QF stage for them. They got a w/o into the QF too, so I'm not sure if they will get QF points?

Wonderful crowd noise for the 15 year-old Indian hope, Maaya - she plays such an exciting, natural game of tennis

Completely unranked at the start of this event, she's now up to WTA 750 or so - and she's just won the first set of the QF match - crowd goes mad

And she won. Extraordinary. A very adult game in a body that's only going to get stronger. And not bish-bash either. More 2009 rivals coming up every day.

Yes. I love following all the youngsters and this has been a real story.

And huge credit to the talent scout at the Rafa Nadal academy too (Natalia something or other)

She scouted Maaya a couple of months ago, back end of 2024.

Maaya went and was assessed, and then awarded a full scholarship for 12 months

And I guess Natalia is smiling now

Yes I hope Natalia gets a good bonus for that one, seems she identified a real cracker. Long way to go but would be fantastic for India to have another tennis superstar to follow Mirza.

The WTA pushing her story as well - India is a big market, would be good for the game if she goes places
