She looks like she has a wildcard for Manchester, so no need to rush back.

Emily and Isabelle lose a tight first set 5-7
This could go either way - little between the pairs at this stage.

They get to a TB in the second set - go 6-3 up - lose two points (OK......) - and then serve for it - and Haverlag serves a horrid double fault

And blink and the rest is history

Shame....

Emily & Isabelle were an early break up in the second set before being pulled back for 4-4. More pertinently they were 6-3* up in the TB and served a DF on their 3rd SP.

I didn't see the entire match, but I suspect that the 6 Aces served were all Emily's and the majority of the 8 DF were Isabelle (certainly several of the crucial ones). Emily looking very good all round at this level.

From the bits I saw, Emily was certainly the better server (although that's not a surprise - Emily has always had the serve of a top-200 singles player, if not better)

But Emily looked a little tentative at the net - floating over often without doing anything and getting out of position and - worse - hitting 'soft' volleys that came back when they shouldn't and there was easy space to hit them into instead. Her returns could be better too - she takes her eye off the ball - she needs a coach to scream 'watch the ball' at her.

But the volleys are confidence rather than technique, I think, and I don't know what her coaching set-up is (if any) - if Louis Cayre would care to help out (smile), Emily could take big steps forward (even bigger than so far)

Ok, I must have watched some different parts of the match ! I saw Emily make a number of interceptions at the net for winners, and the poorer volleys were often a result of hard balls driven at her.
Anyway, always room for improvement and she's heading the right way. A much better player now than when I saw her about 6 years ago.
