Ok, I must have watched some different parts of the match ! I saw Emily make a number of interceptions at the net for winners, and the poorer volleys were often a result of hard balls driven at her.
Anyway, always room for improvement and she's heading the right way. A much better player now than when I saw her about 6 years ago.

Yes, towards the end, she was using the middle of the court well to place her volleys between the two players, which worked well. It took her rather a long time to do so (IMO), but maybe she'll take that forward.

I've always liked Emily (hence voting for her in Jon's Player of the Year )

I remember her at 17 and 18 - she used to rush the net all the time - not always very effectively but it was good to see because she seemed to be enjoying her tennis - she looked like she was having fun, smiling, running to the net, not like it was a chore, which wasn't what could be said for all of them.

Whether she should have taken her college place, I don't know - I thought at the time she should have but that's a long time ago now and maybe she wouldn't be hacking it now if she had of done (might have been doing something better, of course) but she's a top-100 player, and still improving.

As you say, good on her !
