Giles almost failed to take full advantage of that lucky loser berth, having led the first half of the second set by an early break, only to give it back in the eighth game, likewise a couple of mini-breaks in the tie-break.  However, eventually, after a bit of a tussle:

And Giles takes full advantage

He played a touch tentatively on the first MP

And you could see him forcing himself to be more front foot on the second - good return, got a shorter ball, came into the net, claqued away the backhand high volley

Super result - he looked VERY happy

Excellent stuff from Giles, I thought his chance had gone when I noticed he had gone down a break in the 3rd was a pleasant surprise the notification saying he had won.

Dan gets the win, but it was not a coonvincing win against a player ranked in the 500s. Dan should be able to boss matches like this, but he did not.  

I so hope that Dan can put a run of matches together, but perhaps like Dan himself, I am not brimming with confidence.
