L16:- Jodie Burrage (GBR) WR189 v Ajla Tomljanovic (AUS) WR111(CH=32 in 2023)

Although Ajla has played a lot in Britain (11 Wimbledons !), these two have never met.

Great to see.

Total points won 106 to 106, BPs won 5/16 to 5/17, Matches won 1 to 0.

Oof, sounds like a struggle, but well done to Jodie for turning it around and toughing it out! Love to see she's holding on to that new-found mental fortitude and ability to stay calm and not lose the plot entirely when things aren't going well.

Aces 14 to 6. DF's 8 to 12. Most impressive part was saving multiple break points with some good serves - and not letting minor frustration at missing shots boil over into major blow-ups.

Jodie is very much a rhythm and confidence player.
Let's hope this win kicks her on.

Markedly better though at maintaing rhythm and confidence in the last year or so when facing setbacks. She rarely crumbles and goes away like she regularly used to.

Jodie starts her first service game with three more aces, gets reeled back to deuce hits another ace then eventually holds.

BTW, Tara's doubles should be starting around 10:30 UK time, and Eden/Madeleine v Jodie second match after midnight.
Hope Jodie isn't carrying an injury - tape on her upper right arm and shoulder.

Really should have got the break back in the second, but the level overall is pretty good.
