Jack won his first title last June, a 250, then a 500 and now a 1000. That's an exciting progression, and up to #7. Well done Jack! Exciting few months ahead (next to nothing to defend before the grass too).
Well done Jack - terrific performance and remained so calm for the biggest win of his life. No-one can take away the fact that he is a Masters champion. Interesting that Martina said that if he can win here he can win anywhere - maybe we can be hopeful for the clay season too? Anyway he can really enjoy the win and get ready for Miami with no pressure. Also Jack said he doesn't set goals but if an ATP 1000 title was a goal for this year then he has already ticked it off the list and we are only in March :)
An amazing week for Jack, and considering how he needs to manage his body - it's been a fantastic year already. If he needs to play less, but can produce these kind of performances when he does - I'm all for it!
Rune had a dreadful day at the office (I still blame the dad )
And Jack was ruthless - I love the way he said in the on-court interview 'I didn't allow him to play'
Well done to Jack. Talk about breakthough weeks
I know this seems pretty tongue in cheek, but what's the backstory please?
Honestly, no backstory that I know of
Simply, again from what I know, Holger's dad doesn't normally doesn't come to Holger's matches, the mum is often there, but not dad.
But dad was there this time - and Holger seemed very stressed by it - was constantly looking up at him, when he missed a shot, and then he'd miss the next one, and dad tried to encourage/coach (not sure - don't speak Danish - but it was more than just a 'allez' or 'don't worry, keep going') and then Holger got even more uptight
My feeling is that, if he had to come, dad should have been up in the tribunes, not in the box.
The box should have been like it normally is, like for all the other matches
Holger's only young - he seemed completely frozen and VERY focussed on his dad (it got better, as you'd expect, as the match wore on, but it took a long time and the first set was down the drain before he 'unfroze', even a little bit)
Jack, on the other hand, was imperious (with his box shouting at him constantly that 'nothing changes, early backhand, onto forehand' - that was their one and only instruction but it kept it clear and simple)
Oh OK, thanks CD. That makes sense, I remember a similar scenario when Hev won at Wrexham years ago.
I can't remember who she was playing, but her opponent had been winning and playing well all week, and then her hubby(?) came for the final, and she went to pieces in a similar fashion. Something to be said for keeping it the same if you bet to the final!
