Yes, the first of 4 national grade 1s for the 11U-14U
Theres a clay championship, a grass championship, an indoor championship and the outdoor big junior national championship.
All grass events are in May and indoor is in October
Clay for the 14U is in March and the 11U/12U later in the spring
Obviously the outdoor junior nationals is the most prestigious grade 1 and is outdoors at Nottingham in August
The boys had their clay event last weekend and it was won by Haqim Kamal (a frequent GB team pick)
Really pleased for Grace. Another well deserved title for her.
Am expecting to see a lot of the top players at the 18U county cup events this weekend. The players love it as there are very few team events in tennis. The LTA/ITF completely misjudged the importance of it last year to the players and put the Loughborough ITF and the County Cup on at the same time. The ITF qualifying was nearly empty. Even players like Mia Wainwrigh, Tegan Bush etc prioritised county cup. Different dates this year with the county cup being moved back! Am expecting to see those 2 play it again this year - along with the likes of Edie, Megan, Daniella, Annabel, Rosie, Grace, Millica etc in the girls and the equivalent level in the boys. With 6-10 players in each team there are some great matches to watch, especially in the higher divisions
As expected, a lot of the top 18U (giris in particular) have turned out to play for their county in the 18U county cip which starts today - even Brooke Black! She will shortly play Edie Griffiths in division 1. Other girls taking part include Sophia C, Tegan B, Mia W, Rosie C, Ophelia KD, Daniella B, Annabel W (and loads more). Such a fun weekend for them all with some great tennis
