Excellent result to see - well done, Emma.

Well, honest truth, I really didnt think our Emma would pull that one off. Well done young lady. Now get a steady coach or get Platanik back and lets go!

Gee, that girl could be quite good if she committed to a number of things to help her be all she can be*. Sooo frustrating when you see the good bits and know that other bits could relatively easily be improved. But she got the win somehow so well done!!

* the can be I have always said is a solid position in the top 10 and a regular contender for the game's biggest prizes. It is the ommitment, application and some decision making that I have increasingly doubted.

That was Emma's best career win apart from two last year on grass.

I think it's much more the issues I raised in my last post. Though I guess knowing you are not giving yourself the best chance will effect your confidence.

Potentially great player, yes.

Hampered by too much confidence or too little ? biggrin

You weren't clear ....

Frankly, I think there's a bit of both in the equation .....

But it was great to see her playing well, playing the proper style of play for her, looking clear-headed ...

And Mr Platenik must have a slight smile - I guess he can think, well, she really has 'taken something out of my help' Either way, what a pleasure of a match biggrin

She was not really able to stay in the rallies, there were a lot of problems to play on the move with the different speed, different spin and different angle," he said.

I was very happy because I really must say that I never had a player improving that fast - in eight, nine days.

"She was getting a lot of things very fast. And I think it also showed in the first round [victory over Sayaka Ishii in Miami]. She was playing very correct, technically and tactically - exactly what we were practising, so I'm happy and I hope that she could take something out of my help."

She said recently that her personal target this year is to reach the top 15.

 Freudian slip?

Ha, don't think so, but then again I do quite like it.

Why should she get Platanik back, she didn't like working with him and it sounds as though he has a bit of a loose tongue.  Given the interest in Emma and the issues she has had with stalkers, having someone in her team that runs their mouth to the press is not someone she needs or wants clearly.

What a fantastic win by Emma, both in terms of the rank of her opponent, and the effort and application.

But McCartney Kessler is another formidable opponent, on a career-high ranking, three finals and two titles since August, and has been playing well all year.

I thought Platenik was incredibly diplomatic and pretty polite and kind about Emma in his interviews

And the reason to get him back would be that, after two weeks with him, she's just played her best match for about two years

I think mentioning him in conjunction with stalkers is a little below the belt

NB I don't think Emma will get him back, and I don't think she should - it would be like a blinkin' roundabout - but I'm just saying that that would be the reason to do so, if one was looking for a reason to play merry-go-rounds
