Weeks 12 & 13 - WTA1000 - Miami, USA - Hard

I see Townsend, Sonay's conqueror in qualifying, has gone on to have quite a decent tournament, reaching the last 32 including a win over Poots.

Yes. Beaten by Qinwen Zheng in that L32.

Emma has managed to completely rattle Kessler on her serve

Whizzed through that first set, 6-1

Well done Emma. Good performance. An opportunity to play some more forcing tennis well taken

It's that pattern again two or three close games and then the Raducanu roller gets going and reels off eight games in a row. She was totally dominant once she got going, killing nearly all the 2nd serves and even finished one game off with three aces in a row. Emma's backhand slice was also causing all sorts of problems for her opponent.

Very nice to see that we'll have someone in week 2. Usually down to men's doubles by this stage - well done Emma biggrin

Anisimova, who Emma has beaten once this year already, is a set up against Andreeva. So even if Andreeva wins eventually she will have to play a tough three setter while Emma should be pretty fresh after her 50 min match.

R3: Emma Raducanu (GBR) WR60 def McCartney Kessler (USA) WR48 6-1 3-0 Ret

R4: Emma Raducanu (GBR) WR60 v Amanda Anisomova (USA) [17] WR17
They met in the Australian Open in 2025 with Emma winning 3 & 5

Amanda's match V Andreeva lasted 2hrs 49mins, so Emma should be the fresher of the two.

Yes, these match lengths could be very well timed from Emma's point of view with the whole women's L16 playing tomorrow, Monday, ie. no day off for the bottom half of the draw at this stage.

Playing one of her best friends though! Can be tricky. Anyway, well done Emma, needed a lucky break.

Bit of telling comment in post match interview with Emma. Relaxing playing ball with her team really helped her. Then I dont like to be told what to do.. Says it all really
