Kostyuk or Pegula awaits.

Excellent stuff, arguably her best tournament since her US Open win?

One more win and Emma becomes British number one, again!

And Billie Jean King Cup GB #1 player

I assume they use the current rankings at the time the ties are played.

Pegula would be better do you think? Not sure.

Great performance from Emma. An utter embarrassment and shameful from Anisimova.

So Emma is live ranked 48 and she will be back in the top 50 for the first time since 2022.

Certainly where she clearly belongs. Through everything I make her career record against top 50 players as now - won 31, lost 26.

This is cracking stuff from Emma. Just like when she won the US Open. Where did this suddenly come from? Good to see.

Emma has 49 top 100 wins to her career so far. She has one win against a top 5 player, that player was Jessica Pegula. She was ranked 5 then and is ranked 4 now. That win was on the grass at Eastbourne, they also met in 2022 in Cincinnati, with Jessica winning 5 & 4. Pegula must be the clear favourite but the way Emma is playing this week you certainly can't count her out.

I suspect Emma's new fitness coach has a lot to do with it. She is now chasing down impossible looking balls seemingly without a care. Her worst injury this week has been blisters.

I haven't seen more than a few highlights, but it seems while Emma has been playing well (and particularly gutsy against Navarro), her last two opponents have been really struggling physically. That was really tough scheduling for Anisimova.

How well HAS Emma been playing?

Emma has been playing really well. Against Anisimova Emma won the first set without dropping a point on service. Her return of service has been excellent and her return of 2nd serve has been particularly destructive. She also has a backhand slice that seems to be causing all sorts of problems for her opponents. Her speed around court was always good but is now even better. She is also playing with more confidence than I have seen for a long while.

 Difficult to say....

What she did well in both matches was start strong

Now, she - IMO - quite often does that, in the first couple of games, and then falters as it all starts going a bit south

But both these times, she kept her head down and stayed strong - and then it really snuffed out all hope from her opponents and they 'played injured'

So, yes, they both seem hampered, they both played poorly - BUT I think that was partly because Emma had been SO in their face. Also, Mandy today played a better second set so she can't have been too badly affected by her wrist/hands/both.

Sometimes you just need to keep trudging until it clicks
