That was pretty much complete garbage. Bad serving day and it just flowed through into all the rest of her game. Stearns hit some very tasty forehands but Katie just couldn't get any sort of rhythm off the ground and leaked so many errors as soon as a rally started. One to forget about and get back to work.
With clay looming it's potentially going to be a tricky time. Very unfortunate for the injury to come when it did, and it is tough to have to start back in these two very big events rather than work back to match fitness in a couple of 250s.

Could be quite a challenge for Katie to get a Wimbledon seeding with the clay coming and Nottingham to defend
Certainly will be a challenge. She's dropping points in Miami and could be overtaken by several players as well. OER have her at live WR38 at the moment. Only good thing is she gained very few points last year on the clay (57), and just one win in a bigger event will cover all of those !
And another coach hits the dust - platenik over and out
I saw someone who looked very much like Mark Petchey watching Emma's match.....
The Guardian said she had a former player and family friend with her today, maybe Petch was the former player ?
Ah, right.
Not another one! I look at Mirra and think what a talent, what a player, what a difference a longer term coaching relationship makes. I look at Emma, I think what a talent .
Katie has probably peaked. I don't see her game improving and she is reliant on her big serve and forehand. If neither is on their A game, she struggles.
Last night she made too many unforced errors and could break down Peyton's superb defensive work

Even if so, she's done well! Made the top 30, won a 500 and two 250s, 3R at slams 3 times and made over $3 million. With all her years of injury woes - I think it's a solid career.
But it's just over a year since Katie won that San Diego WTA 500, beating 5 top 40 players to do it and had many folk raving about her improvement. It is just in November that she reached her CH 23 after reaching the Hong Kong WTA 250 final, having started 2024 with a CH 50 ( and she would have been top 40 even without San Diego, not that that is anything to ignore! ). And she is still just 28, having had illness / injury issues and maybe coaching issues over quite a part of her career.
Catching up with the comments on Katie B and not sure I agree with all the negative stuff - The Times today suggested that Katie is not yet completely over her foot injury that sidelined her for 2 months. When she wasn't playing, I was unsure why, and I didn't even hear that she had a foot injury, but that may just be because I wasn't following everything closely enough. I'm glad though that Katie B's injury isn't her back, as that has been the cause of most of her injuries.
Anyhow, I think it is a bit premature to call time on her career, especially given that last season was her best one to date, but on the other hand, her early season woes will mean a drop down the rankings for sure, but hopefully just temporarily.
I'm worried for Jodie - sounds like she was really upset about her injury, which makes me think it may be serious. Hope not, as she has been through a lot in recent seasons. Wishing all our players all the best, including Emma, of course. Interesting next match for her against Navarro - the bookies have Navarro as a heavy favourite, but I think it could be a tough one to call, and for those with a few quid to spare, might be worth a flutter on Emma at 7-4 odds when I last looked.
