Weeks 12 & 13 - ATP Masters 1000 - Miami, FL, USA (hard)

It's interesting that Mensik has been slightly below the radar despite plenty of age related stats, including reaching the third round of the 2023 US Open aged 17. But he had an elbow injury last year - and missed Roland Garros - which stopped people jumping on the bandwagon. But a huge talent, with a massive serve, and unlike Mpetshi Perricard, the baseline game to back it up.

Yes. He's also two years younger than Mpetshi Perricard

A really impressive game for a man so young

Interesting, too, in being part of the charge of the Czech men - the Three Muskateers (Machac, Lehecka ad Mensik) - who now are taking some of the limelight away from the Czech women

I would argue pretty much all the limelight with Krejickova and Vondrousova both out through injury, and Muchova (not fully fit either) struggling for form. In fact Muchova was the only Czech woman to reach the second round of the Australian Open.

It feels like a blip rather than indicative of Czech women's tennis which continues to produce player after player.

Yes, it depends whether you focus more on the absolute top (as your examples) or include the up-and-comings

Czechia has 6 women in the top-60

Whereas only 3 men in the top-60

BUT, as you say, those three men have been doing very well

However, in the top-500 there are 6 teenager women outside of the top-group who are doing very well (winning junior Grand Slams, being WTA top-100 and even top-50 before injury, etc etc)

Whereas, outside of the top group in men, the next teenager is ATP 809

Now, you expect men to develop slightly later but the focus in the Czech press has been very much on the teenage hopefuls, including some even younger girls.

But those top-3 guys are making a sea change, even if there's not much behind them. Three is a real game-changed for men's tennis in Czechia.

Yes agree totally. I was thinking primarily of limelight at the moment, and we're in not for injuries the women would be as strong at the top if not stronger.

If you only win seven (!) points against serve the whole match, you can't really expect to win. Would be interested to take a look at their general return stats.

Was unable to follow this / forgot it was on. Shame but great event for the lads - intrigued to see how they do on clay, feels like it could be a harder court surface for them and Henry and Harri.

Looking forward to seeing how Mensik and Djoko go. I expect two tight sets with Djoko winning. For his 100th title. I dont really mind who wins - Mensik will go 6th in the Race with the title. With him, Jack, FAA and Ben Shelton all in the top 8 of the Race, if Mensik wins, there is nice fresh feel to the top 8.

Well the 2 tight sets was correct just the winner.
