Wow. Where have these two wins come from?

The Whitney win wasn't much to crow about - Whitney had just won the title in Santo Domingo the day or so before, had travelled to Mexico, and really played poorly against Heather, physically or mentally tired, or both

BUT Sara is a different kettle of fish - I saw some of the first two sets - and Sara was playing well - her normal irritating style of play that is quite effective - and Heather was giving it as good as she got, even when she lost the point - and obviously better in the third biggrin

QF/R1: (1) Harriet Dart (GBR) / Monica Niculescu (ROU) CR 99 (62+37) lost to Maya Joint (AUS) / Ena Shibahara (JPN) CR 235 (175+60) by 7-6(5) 6-2

So our #1 and #2 seeds, Harriet+ and Heather+ are out but at least Emily + are in the SF, and Heather is into the singles QF ...

QF: Heather Watson WR 206 (CH 38 in January 2015) vs Marina Stakusic (CAN) WR 126 (CH 114 in February)

Stakusic got a w/o over the #3 seed in the L16.

In years past Heather has had some of her very best weeks in Mexico, with 2 of her 4 WTA Tour titles achieved there:

2016 WTA International Monterrey - beat Kirsten Flipkens in the final.

2020 WTA 250 Accapulco - beat Leylah Fernandez in the final.

Seems to be something in the Mexican air to her liking.

Ten games in a row for Hev. One of those days when the shots all seemed to go in and she was well on top. No aces though, but then there was only one DF. Impressive performance, I enjoyed that.

ETA - 49 points for reaching the SF more than covers the points she is dropping for the spring quarter (thanks Strongbow)

Good win there. Now may Emily+ do rather better against the Americans than Hev+ did.

Not much better is the answer

SF:  Emily Appleton (GBR) / Quinn Gleason (USA) CR 167 (83+84) also lost to Hanna Chang (USA) / Christina McHale (USA) CR 2007 (571+1436)  6-0 3-6 [8-10]
