Bragging rights in the girls go to Rose

Most people were predicting Hollie for the final

But she was thrashed by Daniella

6-2 6-1

Not a contest - Daniella was more dynamic, more solid, inside her line more, coming to the net to vary things, serving quite well

And Hollie just didn't have any answers.....

I didnt think the win would be that easy but I did think Daniella had the better chance. Hollie has been training a lot on clay recently and her game is starting to suit that surface more and more. Daniella doesnt move as well as a lot of others  but can finish points a lot quicker on the harder surfaces. Shes not afraid to come into the net to finish a point and can drive volley easily. She has also been training a lot more on that surface recently. I felt the odds were in her favour!

Not much really for Hollie to play for

She's the reigning champion anyway, so already got it on her CV

And she's almost certain to get the junior wildcard anyway, I'd have thought, so doesn't really need that either

Its a condition that no one gets wildcards for the summer events if they dont play the national championships. Hollie had to play. (Same with Hannah and Mika.) If they cant play due to injury or illness they have to provide evidence.

If a player is unable to play the Lexus National Junior Championships due to illness or injury, the player must produce suitable medical evidence supporting the decision to withdraw. Players that do not do this will not be eligible for any wildcards into the summer grass court events.

Winner of the 16U girls gets:

Wild card for Wimbledon Junior Championships Main Draw

Wild card for 1 x ITF W35 event (April/May 2025) Main Draw

Wild card for ITF J300 Roehampton Main Draw

Wild card for ITF J200 Aldershot (April 2025) Main Draw

Finalist gets:

Wild card for Wimbledon Junior Championships Qualifying

Yes, but (a) there are exemptions (and 'exceptional circumstances' get-outs)

"Junior players are required to play in the Junior National Championships (unless exempt or there are exceptional circumstances as to why it is not possible to do so) to be eligible for LTA [WTA grass court] wildcards or wildcard nominations to [Wimbledon]" - LTA Wimbledon nominations and LTA Major Events Wildcard policy.

Hence why Mimi is not playing next week - I mean, I assume Mimi will get her wildcards even though she's not playing?

And (b) Hollie still hasn't much to play for i.e. I know she has to turn up but her heart may well not really be in it as there's nothing really on the line for her

Agree with what you say about Hollie

My understanding is that the LTA will only count exceptional circumstances as verified injury or serious personal/domestic circumstance. About 6 years ago they realised the national championships were a bit of a joke in the 16s and 18s and players were choosing to play ITFS instead. Their answer was to move the date to before Wimbledon, make them stand alone events and make them compulsory. The reward was wild cards.

its definitely worked! Not sure why Mimi doesnt have to play but they must have allowed it - or she felt she didnt need the wildcards maybe. Says a lot that Mika and Hannah are both there though

One to watch out for, then!

Out of interesting, what is Aran's family background - trying to work out where that surname would come from, somewhere like Armenia maybe?

According to AI "The name "Selvaraasan" is of Indian origin, particularly from Tamil Nadu, and is likely a variation of "Selvarasu." Aran was born in England though.

Thanks David / the curate at our church (when we used to attend) was called Aran (Aroraconjures up pictures) and of Indian background. Maybe Aran is an Indian name?

Very tight at the start of the boys final

Just learned that Richard Crabtree is Aran's coach

I've got a lot of time for Crabtree - and this just confirms it

The commentator hasn't said much about Vincent though

Vincent suddenly couldn't get a first serve in for love nor money in the second half of the set

It went to a tiebreak - it was terribly close - both boys playing well

But Aran won the TB, and rightly so

Looking back, Aran was quarter-finalist in the 14U nationals last year - but only lost in three sets, 4-6 in the third, to Eric Lorimer - I remember seeing some of it - terribly close

So good to see him come on and really make his mark now, only one year later

But Vincent is playing well too (NB I don't see him in last year's 16U competition - maybe I've missed him or did he really not make it, even to qualis?)

Thank you - from where, if you don't mind my asking?

Very nice second set from Vincent

Would have been easy to get exasperated with how close the first set was

But he stepped up his game, got a little more authoratitive

Obviously sometimes he's prone to being inconsistent (from paulisi's post) but he's been really on it this week

Really nice to see new names making their mark

6-2

(Vincent is obviously born in the first quarter of the year, as he's already 16)

Oh, I remember - is he the lad who was living in Poland for quite a long time?
