Thanks for the doubles catch up Jon.....and yes I meant to say in most post there's a separate doubles thread. I just thought there might be others like me who tend not to get round to reading doubles threads and are interested in this cos Jack's mostly a singles guy.
Had the pleasure of watching this match. Giron didnt play at all well, having had a great win against Shapo in round 1. Having said that, Jack was absolutely dominant in almost all aspects of the game - great serving (but could have been better), great forehand to finish off points, excellent backhand which in many cases pushed Giron back. And above all a return of serve where he returned 95% of first serves and 100% of second serves, if the stats are to be believed. Its true - there were almost no easy points on serve for Giron, and the returns were typically quite deep as well. Jacks movement was pretty impressive given this was his first competitive match on the dirt. The scoreline did justice to the match. Far too early to get excited, and Jack has a shocker of a draw (probably Fokina, then Ruud) but he must be delighted with his transition to clay and theres a stack of undefended points up for grabs before the grass. On a day where pretty much every other Brit lost on the clay in their opening round matches, against far weaker players in less significant tournaments, this really raised my spirits. Bravo!

In response to JonH - I had a Teams meeting with a colleague who was in Monaco earlier in the day, but alas, I watched on Sky TV from home! One day perhaps!!
