What was the initial delay for before this spider cam issue?
Power off in areas of Madrid. Players now walked off.
It's not just Madrid! The effect on the tournament is actually mentioned.
A hint on the Beeb's live coverage page at when things may return to normal:
The head of Spain's electricity grid says restoring power could take hours.
Speaking at a news conference, Red Electrica CEO Eduardo Prieto tells reporters that the operation to solve the issue could take "between six and ten hours".
Extreme temperature variations in the Spanish interier caused synchronisation issues between networks on 400kV HV lines, according to Portuguese but Spanish power Corp yet to respond over the cause.
We can now bring you the latest from the organisers of the Madrid Open tennis tournament, which was disrupted by the power cut earlier.
Organiser say "in order to guarantee general safety, the nationwide power-cut experienced in Spain on Monday 28 April has forced the cancellation of both the day and night sessions at the Mutua Madrid Open".
I'm based in Madrid, and while I was walking home from the gym at like 12:30pm, I was confused as to why I had no signal. Then I went to Dia, but they refused me entry, saying they had no electricity. As I continued walking, I noticed most people were standing outside their buildings, chatting and trying to figure out what was going on.
Our electricity was out from 12:30pm until 10:20pm It wasn't the worst thing in the world, but having no hot water, no working oven or hobs wasnt exactly ideal for a 'day off work.' It also felt strange crossing roads without functioning traffic lights, and there were many people stuck on trains and in the metro - that must have been pretty scary. Still, the fact that the entire electricity supply across Spain and Portugal went out is quite something.
Hopefully, that's the end of it. But with the signal being down on top of general electricity... I am curious to hear the full details once they're available!
