Week 19 - ITF W35 - Nottingham - Hard

Katy takes a very close first set from Freya 6-4. Katy still looking a bit underpowered - particularly on first serve - but making far fewer errors than Freya.

Tegan was right in it and then served two horrid double faults to get broken, and then lost the set 5-7

I know that she plays all with the top half of her body, and has some excellent arm and hand skills, but you do wonder why she doesn't work on the lower half - it wouldn't seem a difficult thing to do, or to the detriment of her top-half skills

Hollie closed out the first set really nicely - 6-3

But it's not over yet....

Esther's match becomes more chippy and choppy by the minute - Delauny has basically stopped serving, is doing some underarm, some roll them in - I'm not sure if she's injured - or she's just mixing it up in Esther's style

But she managed to serve a double fault (from an underarm first serve) on the second SP - so Esther won the first set on a TB

Paulisi has his one win, with Esther getting the victory in a truly dire match

Well done to her - it's horribly windy there today - which will be the excuse they both should stick to

And paulisi now drops out as I'm sitting pretty win two wins

(and PaulM feeling quietly confident that there might be a third )

Hollie was very impressive today

She's really put in some hard yards in the gym - a marked increase in fitness and strength around the court - some amazing defence at times

And it was hard for her - she puts a lot of flight on the ball, and the wind is really strong

But she kept the ball deep, centred it, kept moving - a really impressive win over a top-850 player

And Hollie's first point?

I think you're overstating the quality a bit here. To be fair I didn't watch it all and it is cold and windy but really a terrible match.

Tegan did pretty well but she got downhearted very quickly in the tie break at the end there and there's plenty to work on with her serve which was a bit of weak link today with 8 double faults. But plenty to be encouraged about too.

Freya was frankly awful.

Anyway 3 GB women through so far.

Eliz is also through, so that is 3 +1 with two to play.

That's because I copied it from Notepad, rather than this thread - oops

Players missing from the acceptance list
Lauren, Emma, Brooke, Victoria, Daniela. There are a few others from lower down the list
Angelica withdrew some days ago

Angelica put herself back in the mix and got a wildcard - although she's now drawn the top seed :(

The others were as expected with Brooke, Dani P and Mika getting them

Somewhat irritatingly, the LL spot went to a foreign player
