It would be nice if Hollie did get a WC into something to give her a ranking. The next possible tournament is the one at Queens where a QWC would give one point. The next ITF though is back in Nottingham in July.
Yes, it is nonsense that Hollie will still not be ranked having reached the QF of a W35. When the points for this level were reduced a couple of years ago, so should the minimum points required for a ranking.
But however much of a nonsense it is that Hollie doesn't have a ranking, I'm against giving WCs just to get someone a ranking. Personally I think WC's shouldn't get the loser point for turning up. They should have to win a match to get any ranking points. If she wants a ranking go and play Monastir or Sharm. Sure she'll have to win 3 or 4 rounds to get a solitary point, but if she can do that here, she should be able to do that in a W15.
Anyway, is a ranking of any great importance at this stage of her development? If juniors is still her main focus, she'll still get WCs in to British ITFs to get some exposure to pros for development.
Naiktha deserved it - she must have been smiling before the match - she is the prefect foil for someone like Mika who needs a hard-hitting, consistent, traditional groundshots style of opponent (like Hurncakova)
Naiktha's 'bit of everything' style just gets right under the skin of Mika
Great tie break by Brooke Black to win it 14-12 and take the match into a deciding set. Really fought hard for that against a much higher ranked opponent.
Even if she doesn't win it has been a decent effort.
Disappointing result for Mika. A lot to learn from it hopefully.
Brooke comes back from *2-5 down in a second set TB to take the TB 14-12 on her 6th SP, having saved 2 MPs.
4-6 7-6(12)
Stayed with it much better than a certain punter who wimped out for a pretty small cash out profit ( which would have been looking much more now ) as the TB was going on and on.
