Tricky draw for Emma, Joint another young star on the rise.
To be fair, if Emma got a top-30 player, we'd say it was tricky, if she got a WR 90 player who used to be top-30 we'd say it was tricky, if she gets a good youngster, we call it tricky...
Maya Joint is exactly the sort of draw that Emma should like (except drawing Sakkari )
Australian-American, college-not college, Maya is doing well but she's had plenty of losses this year to people outside the top-100
Emma may lose but she's got pretty much the best draw she could hope for, in my view, given it's a 1000
Fair enough, a top 30, top 40 opponent, in the first round, would be tricky at the moment for Emma, but then again, for any of our players, not especially Emma. For Emma in particular, I feel she is going through a lot of change in her game, with an unstable coaching set-up, which makes the first round an additional factor, because so much of her game is in a state of flux. Starting the match with a clear strategy, executing her strategy as closely as possible, is more of a factor than who she's playing if they're ranked 31-60. If she executes, her confidence rises, and she will probably beat them because if she's playing at 85-90% of capability she's better than anyone in that bracket.
Id say there is a decent shout Katie will be passed as GB number one by Emma or Sonay; all things being equal, gap will be substantially lower at end of the FO, and certainly by Wimbledon, we could see a new number one player.
Maya must be thinking it's her lucky day .. Emma's level has just dropped massively .. from 5-3 up and dominating, her focus as completely gone .. and it's 5-6 ..
