I believe that Sonay can rally with the best, but doesn't have the power yet to trouble the better players.
Agreed. But what a jump, this time last year I didn't think she was going to break out of the 35k events - now she's consistently beating players in the 50-120 range. She definitely seems more and more comfortable regularly playing at this level. She seems to be consistently working and improving, maybe she doesn't have the weapons to be a top 20 player but health permitting, I can see her being in the 50-100 range for many more years to come.
Decent performance from Emma. Just the occasional poor shot from her. Teichmann's groundstrokes were erratic, seemed to be struggling to find her range.
Emma gets very excited after a Raducanu winner. A few moments when she appeared on top in a rally but didn't do enough to really dominate. Similar winner count if you didn't include aces.
I'd prefer an even more aggressive approach but this is encouraging.

Second that but a bit too early to say just yet. She is certainly finding her feet in the top WTA tournamenuts though and many on here were saying she didnt have a chance this year having come through the ITF tournaments. It just makes you wonder, disregarding the elite top 30, how much difference there is in level between the two? Not sure but she is doing well IMO at the moment.

Emma getting very close to reclaiming British number 1!
And moving ahead in the race which shows trajectory better than 12
month ranks
Especially just 4 months through the year, comparatively I for now prefer to look at the 12 months official rankings with the greater tournament and, more particularly, surface range
That said, I can certainly see Emma being GB #1 again before too long. Currently in the 30/06 projected rankings, ie. including this week so far here and taking account of all points due to drop off before Wimbledon ( Katie has big grass court points to come off but then may add back in pretty big points again ), Katie, Emma and Sonay are showing as all within a 50 points range.
Each of course are on their own journeys with world standing and progress their main aims ( and Sonay top 100 for many years to come strikes me as a call I can go with ). Bah to top 100 for now though, it would be great if we could have all 3 in the top 50 at least for a little while.

Because she was playing an easier opponent than Joint, the fluctuations weren't so dramatic. And her interview today maybe explains why she's getting the confidence drops .. she's finding it difficult still to set up her footwork on clay for some shots. I'm relieved to have an explanation for these lapses, which should hopefully become less prevalent the more she gets used to clay
