Well done Joe and Neal - it takes them up to 12th in the Race, with little behind them; Luke and Sander are 11th and Julian/Lloyd still 3rd and H and H 2nd.
Seems all the top Brits and doubles partners had a camp at the NTC last week with Louis Cayer - from Harri's blog (only Jamie missing)
The most important thing about the London camp was that, together with Henry, I was able to come under the watchful eye of Loius Cayer for the first time since the Australian Open to receive his uniquely accurate observations. The focus was especially on the return turns, both on the returns themselves and in the situations that followed, as the hope would be to break the opponents' serves a little more often, especially on slower clay courts. Calvin was of course also there, and in addition to us, all the other top British players, Glasspool, Cash, Skupski, Salisbury and Johnson, as well as his partner Arends, were also on the court. I was also able to stay in the hotel rooms of the tennis center again, which was very kind of the British side.
That kick of the shots is an interesting thing. In modern tennis, it feels like we hit with full force almost all the time, which is a huge difference from when I started my career 15 years ago. And hitting with full force doesn't come naturally to me, but through training, especially from the back, I can sometimes do it now.
So, the doubles game at least has become flat out power on return, less subtlety as a result - I guess we all see that but interesting to see the comment
G and Z actually won Madrid masters without losing a set, also won their opener here in 2 sets. So Luke and Sander didnt do too badly to get a set today.
That's a great win for Joe and Neal, especially on clay. Does this take Joe back into the top 20?
That is a great win, wonderful. It appears to move them as a team to 10th in the Race (one win further and its top 8) and Neal to 15th and Joe 20th in live rankings. Neal is just ahead of Julian again and behind Lloyd.
They don't appear to have any rivals this week to usurp them from those positions.
